"We have to get our next generation interested in growing food." Marie Johnson from Farmington Municipal Schools is working to help teach youth in her community the importance of growing food and learning about where your food comes from. Thanks to American AgCredit's Rural Roots Endowment, they have started a 4-H program giving middle school students the opportunity to grow food for students across their school district. Applications for the 2025 Rural Roots Endowment, held with the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, are now open. Deadline to apply is March 21st. For anyone involved in agriculture during the mid-1990s to early 2000s, every crop conference, Extension meeting and farm radio show etched into our memories a common message: The U.S. farmer needed to rise to the occasion and feed, fuel and clothe the world as globalization opened new export markets. Doing so had a side benefit of helping to keep stockpiles at manageable levels as productivity on the farm rose. But can the same growth paradigm carry the industry for another 30 years and successfully transition the farm to the next generation? Read more in Matt Clark's "Best Friends Forever? Part 1" report in Terrain's The Big Shrink series. https://lnkd.in/ghxWvsvR Terrain is an exclusive offering for customers of American AgCredit and other participating Farm Credit associations.

Did you know the new Congressman of California’s 13th District, Adam Gray, grew up working in his family’s dairy supply and feed store? After a productive meeting with Representative Gray, we are excited to see him advocate for farmers and ranchers as a member of two important subcommittees within the House of Representatives – Agriculture subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry, Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development; and Forestry and Horticulture Natural Resources subcommittee on Water, Wildlife and Fisheries.

From ground beef and traditional cuts to charcuterie boxes, the Basinger family sells their beef directly to consumers. This model has helped Chad and Cassondra Basinger grow their operation from a few rented 80s to what it is today. Located near Pretty Prairie, Kansas, the Basingers raise their cattle from birth on cover crops and pasture. The animals are then finished on grain sorghum also grown by the Basingers using no-till practices. “We kind of started with nothing and have been growing along the way,” said Chad. “American AgCredit was willing to take a chance on us with some land purchases, and they’ve helped us grow our operation to where it is today.” Read their full story at https://lnkd.in/g4NGVZCN. #NationalMeatWeek #YourFutureGrowsHere
