49th ANNUAL AAMN CONFERENCE COUNTDOWN: 9 WEEKS TO ST. LOUIS The 49th annual AAMN Conference kicks off nine weeks -- or just 63 days -- from today at the Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis. The daily agenda for this year's event is now available for viewing by clicking here. Among the daily highlights. THURSDAY, OCT. 17: Opening ceremony, AAMN president's address, opening keynote address (Dr. Sheldon Fields, National Black Nurses Association president), presentations by VITAS Healthcare and the Nurses On Boards Coalition, as well as the annual AAMN Awards Banquet. FRIDAY, OCT. 18: Education Day, with 18 breakout sessions, a second keynote address (Dr. Joachim Voss, associate dean of academic programs, University of Nebraska Medical Center), and the annual AAMN business meeting that is open to all attending members. SATURDAY, OCT. 19: Three presentations, including the closing keynote by Dr. Alphonzo Baker, president, American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses. Today was a monumental day as the 2023-2024 Men in Nursing officers concluded their General Entry Masters Program at Rush University with a celebratory convocation. Led by President Deshawn Jones, this exceptional team has redefined expectations through their extraordinary commitment to events, collaborations, and community initiatives. NEW DATA: MEN REPRESENT 11.2 PERCENT OF REGISTERED NURSES A compilation of statistics published by RegisteredNurse.org provides a broad overview of demographic data relating to the nursing profession, including the fact the percentage of men who serve as RNs has risen to 11.2 percent. That figure represents a slow but steady increase over the past 10 years. By comparison, males represented only 8 percent of RNs in 2015 and 9.4 percent in 2020. The website places the total number of RNs nationwide at 5.2 million. Other demographic highlights of the data include: -- In addition to the 5.2 million RNs, there are 973,788 LPNs/LVNs in the US. -- The median annual salary for registered nurses is $81,220. -- A 6% employment growth in nursing is projected to happen by 2032. -- Nurses earn an average of approximately $39.05 per hour. -- Almost 80% of Americans consider nurses to hold the highest ethical standards. Hospitals remain the dominant practice setting for nurses. In 2022, 57.5% of RNs reported hospitals as their primary setting of practice, an increase from 54.4% in 2015. Nursing home/extended care practice dropped from 4.8% in 2015 to 3.9% in 2022, while home health services decreased from 6.1% to 3.4% in the same period. The website says the various statistics were compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Gallup, the American Nurses Association, the Journal of Nursing Regulation and staffing agency AMN Healthcare, although it does not specify which organization produced a specific statistic.
