AIHEC is delighted to welcome Ethan T. as our new State Policy Analyst. Ethan's journey is truly inspiring; he graduated from Many Farms High School at the age of 15 and went on to pursue higher education. He holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Dine College and two master's degrees in Special Education and ESL/Bilingual Education.   Ethan is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work for AIHEC and contribute to the promotion of self-determination and empowerment of Native students, a cause that is very close to his heart. Ethan will work alongside Danelle Springer as a peer on Moriah O'Brien's Legislative Affairs team.

American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) met in Palm Springs, California this week for our annual fall board meeting and elected a new executive committee that will spearhead board activities for the organization. Elected to the AIHEC executive committee are: Elmer Guy, President of Navajo Technical University as committee chairman, Leander McDonald, President of United Tribes Technical College as vice-chairman, Dawn Frank, President of Oglala Lakota College as secretary, Manoj Patil, President of Little Priest Tribal College as treasurer, and Eva Flying, President of Chief Dull Knife College as member-at-large. Ahniwake Rose, AIHEC President & CEO, said “Those represented in this new executive committee are a great mix of seasoned and new leadership that will not only help us in maintaining our history and culture but also utilize new ways to do so. I am excited to collaborate with this new executive committee as we continue our advocacy efforts for our TCUs."

AIHEC is pleased to welcome our new Vice President of Congressional and Federal Relations Moriah O'Brien! Moriah is well-versed at the federal legislative and appropriations processes, including analyzing legislation and drafting summaries, reports, testimony, and talking points. Moriah specializes in political situational awareness, including crafting and executing effective strategies to achieve policy and appropriations goals. We're confident Moriah's expertise will assist AIHEC with achieving our vision of strong sovereign nations through excellence in tribal higher education.

We gathered at the University of Iowa to celebrate the legacy and impact of Dr. Ernie Pascarella. It was a true honor to speak and I am grateful for his mentorship. My heart is full connecting with so many grad school faculty and friends. From my remarks “I feel incredibly fortunate to have ended up in Iowa City and at the University of Iowa. Little did I know then how transformative my time with Ernie would be…His mentorship extended beyond academia; he taught me to approach my work and my life with passion and integrity. 🚨FUNDING ALERT 🚨 The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) in partnership with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration is excited to announce The TCU Building Bridges Grant Program, a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) grant-funding opportunity that is being made available exclusively to Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). Specifically, grants of up to $68,600 will be awarded to TCUs that prepare, respond, and are selected for funding. It is NASA’s hope that the Building Bridges Grant program grant will enhance the ability of TCUs to provide high quality STEM education programs, participate in collaborative STEM research initiatives, and ensure the inclusion of American Indians and Alaskan Natives in a well-prepared NASA STEM workforce.
