I spend A LOT of time thinking about community - how to build, sustain, and nourish it.
I see community as a force, like water, that can get through anything and can shapeshift as needed. It’s never just one thing or static. It can be calm like a lake or a quiet sea, powerful like a storm, or destructive like a flood.
Community is always evolving, with people flowing in and out, and the circle of community expanding to let new folks in and shrinking as people move on to new communities.
I also see community as a murmuration - with no static lead or authority. Just people moving to the front to lead as needed and stepping back to restore and letting others lead too. It’s just an endless cycle and flow of being accountable to each other and for each other. (I thank authors like adrienne maree brown , meg wheatley, joseph jaworski and others for the ability to see community in this way.)
This week has been a beautiful reminder of the simple power of people showing up for each other and being together. This is community to me.
I hope CEO means Community Executive Officer - meaning that as CEO you are responsible for building, sustaining and nourishing community.
Thanks for showing up for me and for each other this week - your presence, texts, conversations, and messages touched my heart and filled my community cup!
