  • 🌾 How can we reshape our food systems for a more resilient and sustainable future? 🌾 Did you know that the U.S. Farm Bill, the comprehensive piece of legislation that governs our agricultural and food programs, expired in September? Slated to renew every five years, the bill funds a variety of critical support systems that include loans, conservation efforts, and disaster assistance for famers, ranchers, and rural communities. As climate change and extreme weather events become more frequent, it's imperative that we not only maintain these programs but also integrate innovative policies that promote regenerative agriculture. Read the carousel to learn more about the U.S. Farm Bill and why we should prioritize policy support for regenerative agriculure in the next Bill. Beyond educating ourselves, what can we do to reshape our food systems for a more resilient and sustainable future? Below are great campaigns we can all support: 👉 Kiss The Ground- The Campaign to Regenerate America https://lnkd.in/g8pDJnh7 👉 National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition- We Deserve a Strong Farm Bill in 2024! https://lnkd.in/eh43tT6V 👉 Farm Action Fund- Fair Farm Bill Campaign https://lnkd.in/dDtYprbr #fairfarmbill #RegenerateAmerica #RegenerativeAgriculture #FarmBill

  • 🌾 Could empowering farmers to manage their own risk strengthen the resilience and sustainability of our entire food system? 🌾 In a recent podcast episode, visionary farmer and systems thinker Klaas Martens shared with us the transformative concept of crop insurance savings accounts. This concept is modeled after health savings accounts, giving farmers the ability to build and manage funds over time to cover future losses. Rather than relying on government subsidies for high-risk farming practices, this approach incentivizes risk minimization. As Klaas explains, “The goal is to empower farmers to take control of their own risk management strategies, rather than depending on federal dollars to bail them out.” Why is this important? 1️⃣ Empowering Farmers: By enabling #farmers to save for their own insurance needs, they gain more control over risk management. Instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all federal subsidy system, farmers can make financial decisions that reflect their specific circumstances and local conditions. This promotes self-reliance and gives farmers greater flexibility to invest in resilience-building practices, like #soilhealth improvements and drought-resistant crops. 2️⃣ Reducing Dependency on Subsidies: Government subsidies for high-risk practices, such as monoculture #farming, often lead to unsustainable #agricultural practices that degrade the environment. The crop insurance savings account would encourage farmers to adopt lower-risk, #regenerativefarming techniques. Practices like crop rotation, cover-cropping, and agroforestry could reduce exposure to #extremeweather, thereby lessening the need for large-scale federal support. This model aligns economic incentives with sustainable farming practices. 3️⃣ Flexible Risk Management: With a savings account system, farmers could respond more effectively to unexpected events, from weather to market fluctuations. Tailoring their savings to their specific needs ensures a more personalized and #resilient approach to #environmentalthreats. This would not only protect livelihoods but also promote a more adaptable and innovative farming system, preparing agriculture for the challenges of climate change. This proposed reform is just one way to rethink modern agriculture and create a more resilient, sustainable future. Curious about other ways to improve agricultural practices? Tune in to the full podcast episode to hear more about this concept and other forward-looking ideas! • The U.S. is in the midst of a clean energy revolution, and the Inflation Reduction Act (#IRA) is powering it. With $370 billion in new spending on renewable energy and electric vehicles (EVs), the IRA's historic investment is not only good for the planet—it’s great for your wallet too! Check out the slides to learn about the IRA's EV tax credits and how you can benefit👇 But why should you consider switching to an #EV in the first place? 💰 Cost Savings: EVs are 3–5x cheaper to fuel and have about 50% less maintainance cost than gas-powered cars, saving you money in the long run. 🌱 Environmentally Friendly: EVs produce zero tailpipe #emissions, helping reduce air pollution and fight climate change. ⚡️ Energy Independence: EVs reduce reliance on foreign oil, increasing the use of domestic and #renewableenergy sources, and supporting a more resilient, self-sufficient #energy system. 🔋 Grid Stability & Profit Potential: EVs enhance #gridstability by storing excess energy and allowing you to sell surplus energy back to the grid, turning your vehicles into income sources! ✨ New Tech & Perks: EVs come with cutting-edge tech, quiet rides, and even access to perks like High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes and reduced tolls in some areas. So, would you consider buying an EV for your next car purchase?

More from the front lines of #HurricaneHelene aftermath. #ElectricalVehicles are proving their worth as mini #microgrids to power essential items. Thanks to Jennifer Rennicks, who shared the following from #Asheville. Keep those stories coming and help American Resilience Project keep showing how EVs can strengthen #resilience. "Just weighing in very briefly from hard-hit Asheville where I have been able to charge our personal vehicle several times at a few different charging stations easily and without long waits. On the contrary, we've seen gas lines several blocks long and, in some cases, they are waiting on the next gas delivery. I think gasoline shortages and other factors are improving at the one week mark, but it is a false narrative to say we were more vulnerable with an EV in the first week.   In fact, charging was so easy that on Sunday before water tankers were starting to regularly appear we fully charged our car and drove out of Asheville towards Charlotte to bring back water for our family and neighbors.    At this point, water distribution sites are more common and without long lines, so we are unlikely to head out of town again soon to keep the roadways clear for the convoys of utility trucks, water tankers, and FEMA transports but we are now able to offer rides to neighbors to water distribution sites without worrying about using up their gas on what will likely be a daily chore for the next few weeks until water services are restored.   My husband and I also able to get online for a few hours every day to work at WiFi/satellite centers from our car as I am doing right now and can charge our computers/phones at the same time - another plus for EV resilience!"

  • Join the American Resilience Project (ARP) for an exclusive Fall Webinar that tackles one of the most pressing challenges of our time—accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and overcoming the obstacles that are slowing this critical transition.
