Regional Account Manager at ICIS | Shaping the world by connecting markets to optimize global resources

I recently embarked on a two-week trip to the northeast region of Brazil to celebrate my bday, explore the beautiful beaches 🏖 in the area, but most importantly, to spend time with my Brazilian host family. Twenty years ago, I volunteered with Amigos de las Americas in the small community of Geral of 200 people teaching English and helping to build a community center. It was my first time traveling abroad and the decision to do this was out of character for me, but I was desperate for a change in my life, and with some encouragement from my sister, I accepted the opportunity to volunteer abroad. Little did I know at the time that challenging myself to come out of my comfort zone by staying in a rural community🐄 for almost two months, adjusting to another language and culture (all I knew about Brazil was their soccer⚽), would be a defining moment and lead me down a path in life I did not envision for myself. Today, when I hear that little voice in my head trying to discourage me from taking risks, I remind myself how accepting challenges, and working past the fear/insecurities, can be life changing and lead to lifelong friendships ❤️. #brazil #volunteer #amigosdelasamericas #lifechallenges
