Hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan is a blatant attempt to greenwash an authoritarian regime notorious for its genocide of Armenians, gross human rights abuses and relentless fossil fuel expansion. As a petro-dollar dictatorship, Azerbaijan's soaring gas production starkly contradicts the very goals of global climate action. While the world seeks to reduce carbon footprints, Azerbaijan continues to attract investments from major fossil fuel companies, undermining international cooperation and climate objectives. This bid to host COP29 is not about climate leadership but rather a smokescreen to distract from ongoing environmental and human rights violations. Azerbaijan's increase in gas production and the significant investments it attracts from major fossil fuel companies from Russia and Iran contradict the basic global climate goals and the principles of responsible international cooperation. The forecasted 411 bcm of gas extraction and the resultant 781 million tonnes of CO2 emissions starkly contrast with the ambitions of the COP conferences, which focus on mitigating climate change and reducing carbon emissions. #COP29Exposed #COPOut29 #COP29

In recent communication with the ANCC, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Mélanie Joly reaffirmed that “Canada will continue to press Azerbaijan to engage in good faith with Armenia, resolve the conflict through a negotiated and peaceful political solution by respecting the Helsinki Principles, liberate arbitrary held Armenian prisoners, respect Armenia’s territorial integrity and refrain from the use of force and threatening rhetoric.”  #StopAzerbaijaniAggression #JusticeForArtsakh #FreeArmenianPOWs
