We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible community partners, Hartford HealthCare, for their unwavering support during this critical time. Special thanks go to Dorely Roldan, Manager of Community Health and Health Promotion, and the entire Community Health team for their tireless efforts in helping the residents of Concord Hills Apartments at 105-111 Sherbrooke Ave, Hartford. ❤️ As many of you know, the residents of Concord Hills are facing unimaginable challenges, with many tenants dealing with life-threatening medical issues. Tragically, some are too scared to leave their motel rooms to seek the care they need, fearing they might lose the only shelter they have left. 😔 Hartford Healthcare has not only stepped in to help these residents, but they have also shown incredible compassion and dedication to their own staff who are Concord Hills tenants. The moment this crisis unfolded, Hartford Healthcare jumped in without hesitation, providing immediate assistance to their employees and ensuring they received the care and support they deserved. Their promptness and grace in taking care of their own speak volumes about the organization’s commitment to community and employee well-being. 🙏🏽💙 Thanks to Dorely and her team, they have worked closely with Angel of Edgewood, Inc. to provide critical aid and convince residents to seek life-saving medical attention. Just last evening, another person was admitted to the hospital, thanks to their outreach. 🏥 Now more than ever, it’s important for the community to rally behind these families to ensure they receive adequate housing and compensation. Only then can they focus on their health without the fear of losing their homes. The situation worsens by the day, and it’s vital that the truth behind these tragic events is known. Let’s come together and support these families during this difficult time. 🙌🏽 A huge thank you again to Hartford Healthcare for your remarkable dedication to our community and your employees. We are stronger together. 💪🏽💚 #CommunitySupport #HealthcareHeroes #StrongerTogether #AngelOfEdgewood #Hartford

I know that not everyone will agree with me as I stand up for the residents of Concord Hills, and that’s completely fine. Some of you may choose to unfollow, delete, or even disassociate yourselves from me—and I want you to know, that is A-OK. 🗣️ For those who truly know me, you understand that I’ve always been a warrior, even when left alone on the battlefield. I’ve learned how to appreciate a table for one, and I’ll continue to fight for what’s right, regardless of who stands with me. What I won’t do is stand by and watch as these families, who are going through some of the worst and most traumatic moments of their lives, suffer in silence. Knowing I could have done something—even if it’s just using my voice to speak up for them—means I must act. I would want someone to do the same for me and my family. Thank you to those who stand with me, and to those who don’t—that’s okay too. #standupforwhatsright #SupportConcordHills #communityfirst #AdvocateForChange #theynotlikeus

  • My name is Jendayi Scott-Miller, and I am the Founder & CEO of the nonprofit organization, Angel of Edgewood, Inc. 🔥 Help Over 100 Families Affected by the Concord Hills Apartment Fire – They Need Us Now! 🔥 On August 10th, 2024, a devastating fire tore through Concord Hills Apartments on 105-111 Sherbrooke Avenue, displacing over 100 families. These families, some of whom have lived in their homes for more than 20 years, have lost EVERYTHING: food, clothing, and their most precious belongings. Many are still living in motels, both inside and outside of Hartford, in unfit conditions while waiting to return to their apartments—an agonizing wait that could last until February 2025. 😔 🚨 They are in dire need of HELP NOW. 🚨 As if losing their homes wasn’t devastating enough, tenants have been robbed of over $300,000 worth of their possessions by individuals with master keys entrusted to assess damage. Families like Jenna’s, who is the mother of a newborn, have seen their vital documents stolen, their furniture destroyed, and their lives turned upside down. 💔 Some tenants are forced to live in mold-infested motels with leaking ceilings and bugs, struggling to care for their infants in unimaginable conditions. Mothers like Destiny, who is raising a 2-month-old baby, have nowhere to go but these motels, where the safety of their children is threatened. In one instance, management allowed only 15 minutes to gather belongings, only to find their homes destroyed beyond recognition. 😢 The city is somewhat covering their temporary housing for now, but these families need much more than that: they need food, clothing, medication, deposits, application fees, gas money, public transportation funds, diapers, school uniforms, work clothes, basic human needs, and dignity restored. The property management company isn't returning calls, forcing tenants to sign paperwork to give up their rights just to retrieve the rest of their belongings, and taking no accountability whatsoever.🥺 We desperately need your help to provide immediate relief to these families who have been stripped of their homes and humanity. All donations collected through Angel of Edgewood, Inc. will be managed and distributed by the Law Offices of DeVaughn Ward in Hartford, CT, ensuring transparency and fairness. Angel of Edgewood will not benefit from any of the donations. 🙏 These families have been through enough. It’s time for us to step up and give them the assistance they need and deserve. Every dollar will help rebuild their lives. 🏠❤️ 💪 Let’s show them that they are not forgotten. 💪 Please donate today to support our community members in their time of greatest need. Your generosity will provide food, clothing, and hope to those who have lost everything. 🙌 Thank you for caring and helping us make a difference, while others stand by and watch. 💖 If you can't donate, we understand. We just ask that you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE THIS POST!

  • Sherbrooke Avenue Tenants Seek Help from City Council - Disturbing new issues come to light BY Anne Goshdigian, Hartford News Shortened… Dave: “I can’t understand why City Council and the mayor have done nothing to help us. We are being treated unfairly, and being held in limbo by the greedy landlord. We need assistance and we need it now. Motels are not even fit for habitation. Unfair, unhealthy, and inhumane.” Marya: “I have been living here 16 years and it’s been deteriorating since then. We are being treated as marginalized people. They stripped our apartments and our souls, where was the security? I lost valuable jewelry, electronic devices, clothes, and more. We must be compensated for the pain, desperation, and abuse. Where am I going to find the ashes of my grandmother? Management has only responded with animosity and a complete lack of empathy.” Destiny: “I have a 2-month-old baby, and have to wash its bottles in the motel’s bathroom sink. We’re getting bit up by bugs and the rooms reek of smoke. When I was allowed back into my apartment for a mere 15 minutes to see what could be salvaged, I found I had no walls or flooring, just studs. All my belongings had been tossed in bags and thrown all around.. They emptied out my bedroom drawers and now I don’t know where any of that stuff is. They had also pooped on the floors. These were malicious acts.” Jenna: “I am parent to a son 3 weeks old. They took my insulin, and stole my birth certificate, Social Security card, and driver’s license. They destroyed all my furniture. I’m from Louisiana and moved here in November 2023 and have no family here for support. My baby is in a dirty motel where the ceiling is leaking and there’s mold everywhere. I contacted someone at the city’s Health Department who said he would get back to me. That was 2 weeks ago and still no word. There are sex workers in the motel and crackheads outside my window, screaming and fighting and the baby is crying. I work at Hartford Healthcare and just out of medical training but can’t yet afford to move to a decent apartment.” Jendayi Scott-Miller, who quickly stepped up last month to help the “Sherbrooke Refugees” with food, and garnered donations of clothing and other items to help them replace some of what was stolen. She addressed the City Council saying “Concord Hills allowed these people to come in with keys and allowed their staff to wipe the tenants lives away, resulting in a loss of dignity and pride. Tenants have been manipulated and abandoned in their time of need. They deserve the same attention that’s been given to the plethora of ribbon-cuttings around the city. This is not just about material possessions; it’s about losing what makes us human.” The Council did seem to be listening intently throughout the session, much more so than usual. There was shock and even pain on some faces as the tenants spoke of their loss and suffering. What next steps the city takes to alleviate it are as yet unknown.

  • ¡Mujer en Vota! (Woman, Go Vote!) No somos impotentes. Woman, Go Vote!
