  • We’re continuing to keep our supporters updated on Arlington’s Deer Management Project. On Saturday, October 19, the Arlington County Board will consider a Request to Advertise (RTA) a public hearing on proposed changes to the Arlington County Code that would allow the discharge of firearms for County-supervised deer management in Arlington’s parks. The public is encouraged to participate by sharing live verbal testimony or submitting written comments ahead of the meeting. Learn more here: https://loom.ly/Av-d1fs

  • 🎃👻 We had a spooktacular time at our Howl-O-Ween event! Our young guests got into the Halloween spirit by crafting, learning all about Halloween pet safety, and making some fang-tastic treats for our pups. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for this fun-filled day—we loved seeing all the creativity and kindness in action!

  • As we near the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, our Hispanic and Latino staff wanted to share a message with our community about the impact they make here at AWLA and their commitment to helping both animals and people in Arlington: "En la Liga de Bienestar Animal de Arlington, nuestros miembros del personal latinos e hispanos juegan un papel vital en todos los aspectos de lo que hacemos. Con gratitud, Cliff, Karina, Ivanna, Teresa, Andrea, Sam, y Brenda ______________________________ At the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, our Latino and Hispanic staff members play a vital role in every aspect of what we do. From caring for the animals in our shelter to reaching out into the community, their hard work and dedication are the heartbeat of our lifesaving mission. We truly believe that we wouldn’t be able to achieve all that we do without the passion and commitment of every team member working together to save lives. We are proud to be a part of such a diverse community, especially in a place with a strong immigrant presence. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time for us to celebrate not just our heritage, but the way it touches every part of our work here at AWLA. We know that when we come together, we create a stronger, more compassionate community for both people and animals. We welcome everyone here at AWLA with open arms, and we are all in for making a difference. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and for allowing us to be a part of yours. Just as our culture enriches our lives, it also enriches the work we do every day. Sincerely, Cliff, Karina, Ivanna, Teresa, Andrea, Sam, and Brenda (Although Sam and Brenda couldn't join us for the photo, they’re very much a part of this message and our lifesaving team!)

  • On October 17, Nekoosa will have been in AWLA’s care for an entire year. 365 days without a family or a place to calm home. While we have been so grateful to the amazing people who have fostered her and kept her out of a kennel, but Nekoosa more than deserves a home of her own. And this is where we need YOU! We are urgently asking for your help in finding a home for Nekoosa. Share this post far and wide - we welcome out-of-state adopters! The more people that know about Nekoosa, the better chance she has of finding her family. Nekoosa is a nine-year-old mixed breed dog with the perfect mix of laid-back and fun-loving energy. She loves getting cuddles and belly rubs, playing with her toys, and making new friends. She's house-trained and doesn't mind hanging out at home while you work or run errands. Nekoosa would do best as the only pet in her new home. You can learn more about Nekoosa and see videos of her here: https://lnkd.in/evFJ7rhs. Our community is amazing and will come together to find Nekoosa a new family - we know they're out their somewhere! Thank you all so much!

“Raccoon dad stinks,” Jennifer Toussaint, chief of animal control with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, tells people. “Raccoon dad does the deed and takes off. Raccoon mom’s a single mom; she’s trying so hard all by herself.” This #WorldAnimalDay, let's take inspiration from Toussaint and other AWLA staff who are teaching community members to see the world through the eyes of urban #wildlife and feel empathy for their challenges. 🐾 Why not try to see the world from a different perspective today? 🌍👀 More at https://bit.ly/3NdYZm3.
