In Oct'24, Amazon Channels started distributing Apple TV+, making it the first time the service was available through a 3rd party since its Nov'19 launch. Antenna observed a sharp increase in acquisition for Apple TV+, fueled by 1.5M total Sign-ups via Amazon Channels in Q4’24. In Dec'24 an estimated 25% of all sign-ups observed by Antenna were generated via Amazon Channels. 73% of the individuals who joined via Amazon Channels were users who had not previously been a subscriber to Apple TV+. In comparison, in the same period just 48% of Apple TV+ Sign-ups via iTunes came from new users. Ad-supported plans are available for the majority of the Premium SVOD services Antenna measures, and data shows that U.S. consumers are growing increasingly comfortable with advertising in streaming environments. By the end of 2024, Antenna estimates 45% of Premium SVOD subscriptions were ad-supported, up +9pts YoY. Across the Premium SVOD services that offer both ad-supported and ad-free plan tiers, some 57% of Gross Additions to Premium SVOD in 2024 were ad-supported, up from 45% in 2023. In fact, every Premium SVOD service that offers both plan tiers saw an increase in the share of ad-supported Gross Adds YoY. Premium SVOD services have been under pressure to improve profitability and continue to deliver growth, and, in many cases, with smaller budgets than in years past. One tactic streamers have employed in service of profitability is increasing prices. As noted in Antenna's recently released Q1'25 State of Subscriptions and reported by The Wall Street Journal and other media outlets, Antenna estimates Disney-Max Bundle Subscriptions reached 2.2M by the end of 2024, with the inter-company bundle accounting for a significant portion of sign-ups for all the services included in the package. Among the cohort of users who subscribed to the Disney-Max Bundle between July 2024 and September 2024, 80% were still with the service after 3 months. While bundles generally have higher retention rates compared to stand-alone services, initial data shows the Disney-Max Bundle is also outperforming other bundles. The Premium SVOD category continued to expand in 2024, as more consumers added services. Gross Additions reached 174.3M in 2024, an 18.2M increase YoY, continuing a multi-year trend of sustained demand across the category. Five of 9 services in the category saw double-digit growth YoY among Gross Adds, and 6 of 9 saw a volume increase of more than 1M Gross Adds YoY. Volatility within the Premium SVOD also continued. While Gross Adds increased 11.6% YoY to reach 174.3M, Cancels also increased 15.8% YoY to 147.8M. As Cancels outpaced Gross Adds, Net Additions for the category totaled 26.5M in 2024, a -7.1% drop from 2023. The category continues to grow double digits – Antenna estimates 10.4% YoY growth for Premium SVOD.
