Thanks to Maynor Service Company for hosting the PM Networking event at their offices in the Apex business park. They showcased their training center where their technicians get first hand experience in the skills and development needed to be experts in their field. I’ll have to stick to my day job as I was not able to successfully diagnose the problem on the HVAC unit. Special thanks to owner Brett Chappell for sharing his story of his connections to the company….one of his messages is “it’s the people” and how your treat your people that make the difference. And it’s their team members like Anna Hicks who puts that first in treating others with respect. This company also gives back to the community, such as focusing on food insecurity, first responders, teachers, and much more. Great meeting with Jackie Sanders, founder of J Sanders Studios and podcaster extraordinaire! She is an incredible artist who has her shop in Artspace in downtown Raleigh. We connected when a mutual friend of ours shared with me a podcast Jackie did with one of our Apex Chamber of Commerce superstars, Rachel Castaneda of Rachel Writes. I listened to the podcast and knew that I had to learn more about Jackie’s work. As a courageous entrepreneur, Jackie has opened her business (leaving her steady paycheck behind) and has not looked back. Following her passion in building community through drawing out the creativity in people. Thank you to Leslie Lockhart of Positively Apex, Linda Barrett of WakeMed , and Jacob Rogers of Triangle Community Coalition for their service on the Apex Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Their terms of service have ended, but their commitment and volunteerism to the chamber (and our community) will continue well into the future. Leslie has been volunteering for the chamber for a decade plus, with a dual role of also serving as an ambassador. She will continue supporting the chamber by volunteering for upcoming events. Linda finished her term on the board. She most recently served as the remarkable Secretary for the board. She will continue helping the chamber by volunteering on committees. Jacob was unfortunately unable to attend this board meeting. He has served dual terms on the board and then extra years by being through the leadership officer tour of duty (from Secretary to Immediate Past Chair). He will continue advocating for the chamber in his daily interactions. My deepest gratitude 🙏 for these volunteers and their combined decades plus of leadership that guided the chamber. #LetsChamber

Last meeting of the season for the Apex Chamber of Commerce Ambassador team. We are grateful to this team who play a vital role in our work being front-facing with the community. Special thanks to Professional Restoration Services for allowing us to use their space and extra kudos to ambassador Brent Brandow of PRS for accommodating our many requests for help this year. Also extra kudos to William “Todd” Neal and Karen Atiles, ICF PCC for co-leading this group of superstars and for inspiring them to dig deeper into their own personal development. Congratulations to Florida DeVaul-Dudley, M.Ed., CFTP, CTSS, CMLC and ED Dudley of Shining Light In Darkness (SLID) accepted the Town of Apex proclamation for raising awareness of sexual abuse and domestic violence during the month of October. Shining Light in Darkness believes every survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence is worthy of hope and healing. They envision a world where every survivor is seen, heard, and supported, so they can feel empowered. They provide care for those in underserved communities, so they can heal and rebuild their lives. I remain impressed not only by this organization, but of the many ways that this couple provides care to the community. They are servant leaders who “walk the walk” and they will find a way to succeed. #RaisingAwareness #CommunityIssue #ServantLeaders

Hey, that’s the wonderful Erica V. of the Women's Business Center of North Carolina. The organization empowers women by offering tools and support to establish businesses, stabilize companies, generate sustainable profits, strategize for future growth and economic development of the community. Sounds like a great partnership for the Apex Chamber of Commerce to enhance the programs and resources offered to the members by helping to improve the greater Apex community. Erica and I first met when she was in financial services, and now she has leveraged her talents into this opportunity that provides direct impact into communities across a wide region. I can’t wait to see where she takes this organization and the number of collaborations and partnerships she will foster and n communities across our area, yet also specific Apex to enhance why we are called The Peak of Good Living! #LetsChamber

Meet Matt Perez of Phelps Dunbar LLP. Matt recently moved himself and the family from Florida to work in the Triangle office of the national law firm Phelps Dunbar (office located in Raleigh). When looking for a home, where did they choose? Well, Apex of course! As a recovering attorney, it’s always special for me to connect with attorneys to see what’s new in the legal profession and where I can still be of help and support. Thank you Bill Peterson and David Baylock of mpact3 for inviting me to attend the 26th Annual Triangle Leadership Breakfast at the Sheraton Imperial. The keynote was by Chris Simpson, president of CBMC International. A very inspirational commentary of a life that may seem on the surface to be good and rewarding, but perhaps there is no depth to what you see. One has to be careful not to go through life like a stone skipping on the surface of the water. You have to be intentional and go deeper to get the meaning and to truly connect with people where they are (and where you can be of help). It’s no different than the work you need to do to build community. You can’t just stay in the surface. You have to dig into the layers, build connections and be intentional in following up with others. Incredible to be in the room with hundreds of others who were also on the edge of their seats. How do you discover your purpose? #LetsChamber

Great meeting Molly McKinley of Redtail Creative fame. She lives in Apex but does consulting and creative marketing work all across the nation with a team that can services no matter where you are located. We met in the ever popular Community Leaders Drinking Coffee monthly zoom and touched base given our mutual Peak of Good Living roots. She is also an Entrepreneur in Residence at Meredith College and looking for ideas to help accelerate a new program. She turned to her local chamber to explore creative solutions that will serve the needs of many students (who will become future leaders in their own communities).
