New York City’s elite business, entertainment and philanthropic communities united to celebrate The Apollo’s 90th anniversary at our largest annual fundraising event, the #ApolloSpringBenefit. We were thrilled to honor music legend Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds with the inaugural Legacy Award, presented by Fat Joe and Kwanza Jones, and to induct him into The Apollo’s legendary Walk of Fame the day prior. Multi-platinum, global superstar USHER was celebrated with the Icon Award, presented by President and CEO of The Apollo Michelle Ebanks and Executive Producer Kamilah Forbes. The stunning event featured performances by Jordin Sparks, Johnny Gill, Big Daddy Kane, Fat Joe, Karyn White, Avery Wilson, Saint Harison, Leon Thomas, Wé Ani, Kofi B., Kersten Stevens and more; hosted by comedian and actress, Kym Whitley, with musical direction by Adam Blackstone and after party beats by DJ D-Nice. The Divining will start as a processional in the streets of Harlem and land at The Apollo’s Stages at The Victoria. This LIMITED ENGAGEMENT is presented FREE with RSVP and open to the community to experience September 13-22, 2024. Combining movement, poetry, percussion, and visual art, The Divining is a call to reclaim our connection to the land and to each other, weaving together the rhythms of climate change, environmental justice, and the deep roots of Harlem's heritage. Apollo Education will gather teachers, cultural workers, administrators, and teaching artists to discuss the meaning, preservation, and future of teaching and learning centered on Black diasporic arts and culture.
