“Growing emotional maturity as a leader is an ongoing journey that requires self-awareness, intentionality, and a commitment to personal growth. By understanding your tendencies, recognizing the patterns they create, and taking deliberate actions to shape your desired reality, you can lead yourself—and others—with greater intentionality and influence.” Recently, Appello Associate Justin Almas shared his thoughts on the importance of growing emotional maturity as a leader in our monthly edition of Scintilla. Justin offers how to combine insights from leadership tools, The Know Yourself to Lead Yourself tool and the 5 Voices assessment to provide a framework for developing the emotional maturity needed to lead effectively in today's complex work environment. #scintilla #associates #emotionalmaturity #appellopartners

Letting your people know that you care about them is much more than simply Christmas bonuses or thank-you cards. It's consistently integrating rhythms that allow your people to be seen, heard, and understood. These changes don’t have to be drastic for them to be transformational, but they do have to be consistent. Consider implementing consistent one-on-ones with your direct reports and utilizing resources to help you gather and track consistent feedback data on how people are experiencing their leaders and the overall culture. Commit to taking action on these insights and the direct communication you receive from your people, ensuring you are following up. And, of course, celebrate their honesty, open feedback, and a culture where every voice is valued (because what we celebrate we become). You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the meaningful difference these changes and strategies can bring about in helping to meet the core needs of your team members. #sustainableengagement #leadershipdevelopment #appellopartners

So often we are asked: “How’s it going?” We often respond with a trivial “good” without really knowing if that’s true or what it means. In order to better understand how we’re doing, really, we have to sit with our current reality and make sense of it. The Peace Index helps us discern how healthy we are, or how at Peace we are currently. By breaking our overall Peace (sense of wellbeing) up into five meaningful categories, we can get to a more objective and accurate understanding of where we are and what we can do about it. To use the tool, sit with each category and rate yourself from 0-100% on how healthy that category feels right now. Once you have recorded all the percentages, add them up and divide by five, and that’s your Peace Index! How clear are you with your communication? Are you having explicit conversations about what needs to be done, by whom, and by when, or are you merely hinting at what needs to be done? This unclarity across communication is a problem that plagues leaders at all levels in an organization. Most of the time, we haven’t been as clear as we feel, and, in not having been clear, it can feel frustrating that others aren’t taking actions to accomplish the supposedly agreed-upon terms. Clarity doesn’t happen by chance, it has to be intentionally fought for through consistent, explicit communication. Let’s leave implicit hints at the door and move forward into effective leadership through communicating in a clear, simple, and proactive way as we strive to lead our people well. #communication #leadership #AppelloPartners
