Last week, we had a table at the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Health & Wellness Fair! We provided information about our services and engaged students and staff in a collaborative drawing activity to enhance self-regulation skills. We appreciate everyone who attended and took the opportunity to learn more about what we do at Applewood!

We are so proud that our very own, Shashi DeHaan, MSW, LISW, MAS-IFP, IMH-E, CFTP - IECMH Clinical Supervisor at Applewood Centers was advocating for the well-being of Ohio’s youngest children and their families yesterday! Shashi and hundreds of other advocates from across the state joined forces in @GroundworkOhio #AdvocacyDay25 to ensure Ohio’s children and the families who care for them get the healthy start they deserve. #RaisingOurVoices25

We had such an amazing time celebrating Black History Month in the girls residential cottage! The youth in our care honored the incredible achievements of Black individuals throughout history by creating a beautiful quilt filled with photos and facts, themed "We Are All Woven Together." Each of them chose a historic figure to showcase on a poster, and their creativity and passion were so inspiring!

We are so excited that our friends at Bellefaire JCB are hosting a fantastic FREE event with resilience expert Deborah Gilboa, M.D.! Known as "Dr. G," she will be delivering two free presentations on Wednesday, March 5th, at John Carroll University. One presentation is for parents and caregivers, and the other is for educators, mental health clinicians, and other professionals who work with youth. Dr. G will help everyone learn how to turn kids' fear, stress, and anxiety into resilience, productivity, and innovation! This February, the City of Cleveland is hosting an art exhibit to celebrate Black History Month. Visitors are welcome at City Hall through May 30th, 2025 to see the amazing ‘Artists Run the Streets BHMX Edition’. This year’s theme is African Americans and Labor which was viewed through the work of six Cleveland artists: Christa Freehands, Chris Goody, Ryan Harris, Mike Miller, Sampson Smiley, and Lacy Talley. The different works show how each artist interprets labor and legacy, diving into themes of perseverance, identity, and pride.

Join us at the UA Internship & Career Fair this Wednesday, February 12th, at the University of Akron! This event is free for students and alumni from all degrees and majors who are on the lookout for internships, co-ops, and full-time jobs.
