Our Rural Pretrial Practitioner Fellowship recently concluded its inaugural cohort with resounding success in September! This innovative 9-month program brought together practitioners from rural jurisdictions across the country and equipped them with the knowledge, skills, and mentorship needed to implement effective pretrial practices. Fellows collaborated on strategies to address the unique challenges of rural justice systems, and their work has already sparked impactful reforms in their communities. We concluded the first cohort at the annual National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies (NAPSA) conference last month. #PretrialJustice #Pretrial #Collaboration

Check out this excellent analysis of the first year of Illinois' Pretrial Fairness Act (PFA) from Amanda Pyron of The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence and Insha Rahman of Vera Institute of Justice. #pretrial #PFA #PretrialFairnessAct #Illinois
I was very proud to co-author this op-ed with Insha Rahman of Vera Action, noting that pretrial fairness is a matter of both racial and gender justice. I hope Illinois is a model for the nation. “Importantly, victims and survivors of violence were a key part of the movement to end money bail in Illinois. What motivated this diverse group of champions for reform? For one, the shocking racial disparities that result from a money bail system, where Black and brown families, and families experiencing poverty, disproportionately bear the brunt of making an impossible choice between paying for the freedom of their loved one versus making rent, putting food on the table, and paying for other basic necessities.” https://lnkd.in/gkZgPYQC
