It has been a LONG conference season! I finally posted my conference season recap from UNLEASH HR Executive. Here are some highlights: Key takeaways emerged, with leaders from companies like S&P Global, Splunk, Ford, Marriott, and Spectrum sharing how they’re leveraging HR technology to drive strategic change. - Generative AI & Copilots: AI is here to stay, and companies are figuring out what “agents” and “copilots” mean in HR. S&P Global made generative AI its #1 priority, and vendors like Eightfold, Crosschq SmartRecruiters Workday and One Model launched exciting tools to support this shift. But there are still big questions around data privacy, expectations, and pricing. - Back to Basics for Transformation: True transformation is more than cost-cutting. At #HRTechConf leaders like Kelly Cartwright Jennifer Tracy and Melissa Thompson shared how they focus on integration, ROI, and change management—reminding us that transformation is a continuous journey. - Skills Are Here to Stay: Yes, I am going to keep talking about skills! Companies are tackling skills gaps head-on, with 90% creating new roles this year. Skills-based approaches help companies plan better and create equitable opportunities for employees. But, the real value comes from putting these strategies to action through the power of AI and talent intelligence. -The Evolving ATS Landscape: With 1 in 3 companies re-evaluating their ATS, we’re seeing new options that deliver more adaptability and intelligence. Paradox and Eightfold are offering solutions that support high-volume and strategic hiring needs, transforming the way organizations approach applicant tracking. - Interview Intelligence & Scheduling: Tools like those from Pillar are reshaping how companies approach the interview process, giving real insights that lead to better hiring outcomes. Every company we are talking to right now is going through some TA transformation or replacing some part of their TA tech stack. Smart and proactive budgeting is a critical exercise in this process. But budgeting for TA is a complex and requires balancing the needs of the recruitment process with the broader financial constraints of the organization. According to our latest report with Paradox, TA leaders face more challenges with budgeting than they did a few years ago. • 1 in 2 TA Leaders face challenges this year with getting budgets approved. • 72% of TA Leaders stated that there are more key stakeholders involved in their decisions. • Only 38% of TA Leaders feel confident in building a business case for technology. • 64% of TA Leaders fear that they will lose budget. • Less than half of TA Leaders can show ROI. New Report: Today, we published our latest report on #TATech budgeting. This report has been a labor of love over the past year and it was inspired by many conversations with my friend Joshua Secrest, starting when he was Head of TA Transformation at McDonald's. This topic was discussed over and over again at #HRTechConf and #UnleashWorld this week. Budgeting is at the core of every successful TA strategy. When done effectively, it aligns talent goals with business objectives and provides TA teams with the resources to meet future demands. But here’s the challenge: many TA leaders lack the time or expertise to budget properly. Too often, budgets are reactionary—swelling during hiring spikes and shrinking when demand slows. This results in two scenarios: - TA teams are under-resourced and overwhelmed - Or, they rely on solutions that fail to drive real value We found the real-world impact of these challenges: - 1 in 2 TA leaders face more difficulty in getting budgets approved in 2024. - Only 38% feel confident in building a business case for TA technology. - Less than half can demonstrate the ROI of their tech investments. This research explores different budgeting scenarios, from high-volume hiring to stable hiring to shrinking budgets. TA leaders must plan for 2025 and ensure investments deliver real value.
