Thank you to our partners in public art, Forest Hills of DC, Marvin Bowser, and Tenleytown Main Street for making a vision of making the invisible visible and turning the inside out into reality along Connecticut Avenue in D.C.! The goal of the project is to raise awareness of the people who live and work in senior living by bringing the community together to create the photo portraits, pasting them on the exterior walls of Forest Hills and bringing the community together to experience it. In the process, we hope to advance positive beliefs about age and aging. This video is just a small sample of the incredible work that included months of planning; beautiful photos of residents, staff, and volunteers (created by photographer Marvin Bowser); and story collections by Meaghan McMahon, LGSW. The installation will stay up at Forest Hills until weather and wear and tear take them down. It will live on at a website that features stores of the photos' subjects here: https://lnkd.in/eda9R2Dk The project was made possible by a grant from AARP.

Tuesday is International Day of Older Persons. By 2030, older persons are projected to outnumber the number of young people globally. As populations age, the demand for comprehensive healthcare and social support services will continue to grow substantially, particularly for older persons with conditions such as dementia. “We must work to cultivate people-centered care systems that are sustainable and equitable, and they must amplify the voices of older persons by ensuring their participation in policy making,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres “On this International Day of Older Persons, let’s commit to strengthen care and support systems that honour the dignity of older persons and caregivers.” https://lnkd.in/ddqbjVC
