Malaysia's government is looking to work with data centre players to build robust regulatory frameworks as the industry experiences rapid growth in Johor. On October 27, Malaysia Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong said it was time for data centre players to form a trade association. Our Chair Jeremy Deutsch welcomes this direction, recognising Malaysia's significance as a key market for data centres and emphasising the value of collaboration: "If a data centre association is established in Malaysia, we would welcome collaboration to support a thriving digital ecosystem in the country and region." Singapore aims to increase the amount of power it allocates for data centres by as much as 35%, as shared by Janil Puthucheary, senior minister of state at the Ministry of Communications and Information. Singapore plans to free up about 300 megawatts of capacity in the short term through resource allocation and efficiency enhancements with potential for another 200 megawatts through partnerships with clean energy providers, underscoring the city-state's commitment to bolstering sustainable digital infrastructure.
