Ida Newbill loves to wave to the crew members of the North Louisiana & Arkansas Railroad trains that run through her town. So to celebrate her 110th birthday, NL&A brought a locomotive to her party! Short lines aren't just committed to their customers, they're committed to their communities! Thanks to the NL&A team and Central Region Board Member Danny Robbins for making this happen and sharing the story with us!

CRISI is a critical program for short line railroads and the Special Transportation Circumstances carve out is an important piece of the program. We’re thrilled to see that the Federal Railroad Administration has awarded the short line project grants as requested by the Alaska and South Dakota DOTs. These projects will make a significant difference on the ground and will provide the taxpayer with an excellent bang for the buck. Short lines are excited to get to work! https://ow.ly/3kN350TN1nz

We continue to advocate for the modernization of the 45G railroad track maintenance tax credit. Read Chuck Baker's ASLRRA Perspective in Railway Age magazine discussing 45G and why it's so important to short lines. https://ow.ly/NuBA50TKVfA

It's the 44th anniversary of the passage of the Staggers Rail Act, AKA the birthday of the short line industry! 🎉 The Staggers Rail Act largely deregulated the rail industry, making it possible for entrepreneurs to take on struggling lines and build that first- and last-mile service for which our members are well known.

We recently posted about how member Pacific Harbor Line's use of renewable diesel and low emission locomotives contributed to reduced air pollution at the Port of Los Angeles. Did you know we have many supplier members who help railroads like PHL reduce their environmental impact? Some recent examples in the news: OptiFuel Systems announced its new line of Total-Zero Diesel Series Locomotives https://ow.ly/757R50TJPO2 and Knoxville Locomotive Works just delivered a Tier 4 switcher locomotive that is the first to use a more efficient QST30 engine from Cummins Inc.: https://ow.ly/VKCl50TJPO3
