#AURPinAction: Dr. Ranu Jung, Founding Executive Director and Endowed Chair for the University of Arkansas' Institute for Integrative & Innovative Research (I3R), will presents (Nov. 12, 1:45pm ET) at AURP's 2024 International Conference as General Session Keynoter on "UA's Convergence Research for Societal Impact." Dr. Jung will share how I3R is a new kind of public research institute, one with convergence at its core and differentiated by a dual mandate to advance research excellence and impact economic development. While most research institutions focus on discovery and development, I3R's goal is deployment of innovations at scale through partnerships with industry, community and philanthropic organizations while educating and empowering a diverse and qualified future workforce. #AURPinAction: Brian Darmody, AURP Chief Strategy Officer, in a new AURP Blog post, writes about two key events this summer centered on the imperative for robust government, industry and university partnerships to keep the U.S. technologically competitive Detailing three takeaways for universities, companies and the federal government, Brian writes: "To keep the U.S technologically competitive, it is vital that governments, industry, and universities adapt and continue to work together to find new ways to connect, expand research partnerships, and achieve technological breakthroughs as has been done since the 1950s. As a major funder of R&D, making sure the private sector is engaged will remain critical." Then we went to University of Illinois Research Park EnterpriseWorks incubator for an entrepreneurship roundtable with Serra Ventures, LLC, Illinois Ventures, gener8tor, Boston Bioprocess, Technology Entrepreneur Center and consortium partners. We then had a visit with the Economic Development Corporation of Decatur and Macon County led by Nicole Bateman. We went to Primient to see the new iPROOF facility and ADM to see the start of their new demonstration space. I’m thrilled to celebrate my colleague Merry Hunter Caudle, CEcD who has achieved the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD). This significant accomplishment reflects her commitment to expanding her knowledge and contributions to economic growth and development. “Achieving the CEcD designation is the highest honor for economic development professionals,” said Nathan Ohle, President & CEO of IEDC. The CEcD designation, awarded by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), is recognized globally as a symbol of excellence and professionalism. It requires experience, rigorous coursework and a comprehensive understanding of economic development skills and strategies. Please join me in congratulating Merry Hunter! #georgiatech #IEDC #CEcD Georgia Tech Office of Institute Relations
