🌾 Student Spotlight! 🌾 We’re proud to highlight one of our outstanding students, Omar Abdelmawgoud, who recently attended the 29th Annual Spring Agricultural Forum hosted by the Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA).

🌱 AGB 100 Tours Agritopia! 🌱 This week, our AGB 100 - Introduction to Agribusiness students had the unique opportunity to tour Agritopia Farm, a one-of-a-kind community blending urban farming, sustainability, and innovation in Gilbert, AZ. From exploring farm operations to learning about community-supported agriculture and food entrepreneurship, students got an up-close look at how local agriculture can thrive in urban settings. Here’s what they had to say: “We had the prestigious opportunity to tour Agritopia, a local urban farming space with deep roots in local commerce. This was a fantastic tour, and we learned so much from the amazing people involved. We got to tour the several acres of farmland, the beautiful and serene orchards and gardens, and even got to tour the local business involved in supporting the non-profit! We’d like to give heartfelt thanks to the team that has helped make this possible, and we hope to go again in the future. Thank you Agritopia!” - Brooke Whaley "One of the main things I learned was about the different ways to bring the community together through agriculture. Another valuable takeaway is that it is always possible to bring agriculture into urbanized areas. 🎤 Spotlight on Faculty & Student Leadership at W. P. Carey! 🚀 We had an incredible Faculty Panel Discussion at W. P. Carey School of Business – Polytechnic Campus, coordinated by student leader Grayson Daniell! This event brought together expert faculty members Ashok Mishra, Renee Hughner, Justin Bina, and Mindy West for an engaging discussion. Grayson took on the moderator role, guiding insightful conversations and fostering a dynamic student learning experience. Reflecting on the event, he shared: 💬 “When it comes to moderating the panel it was such a rewarding experience. Seeing the professors so eager and passionate to share about the opportunities W. P. Carey offers on the Polytechnic campus was so nice. Also to see the engagement that the student audience members had through questions they asked made me feel that the panel had an impact on those who attended. Overall it was a great experience and I hope those who attended enjoyed!” A huge thank you to our faculty panelists for sharing their expertise and to Grayson for leading such a valuable discussion! 🚜🌾 AGB 100 Explores Sossaman Farms! 🌾🚜 Students in AGB 100 – Introduction to Agribusiness took a deep dive into farming on a recent tour of Sossaman Farms, led by Assistant Professor Justin Bina. Here is what a couple of our students had to say about their experience: “Steve Sossaman led students through the inner workings of what it takes to grow, process, and manage hundreds of acres of ancient grains. He detailed the history of each grain and the history of the farm, exemplifying just how much work, passion, and dedication goes into producing sustainable grains.” Jessica Timmons “We learned about how Sossaman Farms has evolved over the generations and their diverse number of crops they grow. Their main commodity is wheat and the main types include Emmer, Fife, and White Sonora. We also learned about the history of these being brought to [the] U.S. and how they work with people from different states and countries. We also learned how they do crop rotation with alfalfa to maintain soil health.
