  • For our next EC Spotlight, we want to highlight our VP of Pledge Education, Mason Beckmann, whose 28 pledges were just initiated this past Saturday! Mason's journey within DSP is a testament to the opportunities and growth the chapter offers. He joined DSP to find a smaller community within W.P. Carey and to hone his leadership skills. Since his initiation in the Fall of 2022, he has held various positions within the chapter, including roles on the Professional and Community Service Committees and as Vice President of Chapter Operations. As Pledge Educator, Mason's responsibility was to educate the pledges on the chapter's operations and history. He aimed to encourage them to be active and engaged to get the most out of their DSP pledge experience, while also getting them excited to be involved in the chapter once they were initiated. Mason said that his ideal outcome as Pledge Educator was for the new pledge class to "be excited to get involved" once they were fully initiated into the chapter, and he believes that this was accomplished. Pledge education is a cornerstone of our chapter, shaping the future and character of our organization. As a pledge, Mason was inspired by the dedication of our older members, which fueled his desire to give back to DSP. He aimed to be a role model for the newly initiated class, ensuring they were as excited to contribute to our chapter as he was. DSP has immensely helped Mason progress as a professional and in his career. He noted that there were "many opportunities to serve our chapter that prepared me for internships and the process of securing them." Additionally, Mason learned how to connect with people in such a large, diverse organization. Being Vice President of Pledge Education this semester pushed Mason outside his comfort zone and allowed him to be the best resource and mentor he could be. A huge thank you to Mason for his work with our newest pledge class! We can’t wait to see what these new members accomplish!

  • Our next EC Spotlight is on Mika Dubey, Gamma Omega’s Chapter Vice President of Professional Activities! Since her initiation in Spring 2023, Mika has been an active member of our chapter. She has served on the Professional Committee and Scholarship and Awards Committee, and her contributions as one of the Recruitment Chairs last semester were invaluable. Mika’s goals for the semester are collaboration and engagement. She wants to work with as many “cross-functional partners” as she can to ensure that the chapter remains united. Professionalism isn’t just about the events that are held, Mika also wanted to get our brothers extra engaged with professionalism, whether it be the events themselves or the development. She hopes to make people feel “energetic and passionate” about developing to be the best version of themselves. As VP of Professional Activities, Mika's biggest challenge is the logistics of event planning and having things go wrong at the very last minute, whether it be issues with venues, guests, funding, or anything else. Mika has to think quickly on her feet and work with her committee to come up with the best solution in a timely manner. She shares that the best piece of advice she’s received is that nothing will go as you expected, but it is important to keep your head up and stay calm. “It’s been important for myself and my committee that I stay calm and rational to figure out the best course of action,” Mika shares. This lesson has been helpful in situations that occur within her role as things have gone wrong at the last minute. The chapter is so excited to have Mika as VP of Professional Activities this semester, and we cannot wait to see all the amazing ways she helps our brothers grow professionally!

  • A huge thank you to brother and Sales Scholars president Alex Eikenberry and ProSales Club President Val Hernandez for their presentation and workshop last week about the art of selling and negotiation! Alex and Val both have valuable experience in the sales program at ASU, leading organizations that allow students to distinguish themselves through informational workshops, interactions with corporate professionals, and opportunities to participate in collegiate sales competitions. Throughout the presentation, they both emphasized creating value in selling. The attendees received insights on how to efficiently identify pain points and practice selling using those identified pain points. The ProSales club has made an important impact on Alex’s professional development as through the close collection with other sales students and corporate sponsorships, he has gained “valuable insights on the sales cycle” and is constantly “broadening his network.”  The biggest takeaway from this workshop was the importance of asking the right questions when selling. If you don’t understand how you can be of value to the person/company you’re talking to, then you don’t give that person a reason to work with you. “Help them, so they will help you” is something that is important to remember, Alex says. Shout out to the professional committee for putting on a great workshop that allows all of our brothers to broaden their professional skills while gaining valuable knowledge of sales!

This past weekend, our brothers gathered on McCord lawn for one of our signature professional events! Girl Boss Brunch is an empowering event that brings together accomplished women from both the Women's Business Leaders Association (WBLA) and DSP to share their experiences and successes. 💐💜 Shout out to our Vice President of Professional Activities Mika Dubey and her committee members Faith Wang & Laura Wang, along with brother and WBLA Executive Hailey Barker for planning such a fantastic event! Through a panel discussion, attendees heard insights into how they navigate challenges, grow their careers or businesses, and balance academic and personal life. Additionally, attendees got to network with the panelists and each other while engaging in a fun activity: making flower bouquets! Mika shares the key takeaway from the event is that “anyone can be a girl boss; it is all about confidence!” Thank you to everyone who showed up to participate, the panelists, and the organizers. We loved hearing from all our WBLA and DSP girl bosses! #girlbossbrunch #professionaldevelopment #asudsp

🌎 Community Service Recap 🌎 Big thank you to our Vice President of Community Service, Katelyn LeBlanc, along with her committee members: Kaley Brummet, Thomas Mask, Esperanza Acosta, Aashna Ramani, Dannia Solorio, & Izaac Carlebach, for all the incredible events that were created as service opportunities for our brothers to allow them to give back to others during the month of September! 🎁 Donation drive: DSP worked with the Pitchfork Pantry, an ASU nonprofit created to address food insecurity on campus, and we donated over 100 nonperishable and hygiene items! 💌 Letters Against Isolation: At recruitment, almost 200 cards were written for isolated seniors across the US for Letters Against Isolation. Both PNMs and actives worked together to create heartfelt messages for people! 🧶 Plarning: Over 35 brothers showed up to create plarn (plastic yarn). They were able to repurpose single-use plastic bags and turn them into yarn that will be used for sleeping mats for homeless communities. .  🍪 Aris Foundation: For the Aris Foundation event, Comserv first hosted a fun social event where peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies were made to distribute to homeless people in Tempe. The following day, some brothers attended Aris Foundation’s weekly event and handed out our homemade items, helping out as needed! Our ComServ team planned some amazing events to allow the chapter to serve and give back to others. We can’t wait to see all the new events Katelyn and her committee will continue to plan to keep helping those in our community!

  • Our chapter proudly announces our next EC Spotlight on Katelyn LeBlanc, Gamma Omega’s Chapter Vice President of Community Service. Katelyn was initiated in the Fall of 2023, and since then, she has served the chapter in many ways on/off campus event planner on the comserv committee, event planner on the alum relations committee, and professional event planner for the recruitment committee. Katelyn’s goal this semester is to help brothers find their passions in community service by offering a wide variety of events. She hopes to have a lot of fun and unique events that excite people and inspire them to volunteer and serve others not only within DSP but also outside of it! Community service is an important pillar in DSP that encourages others to give back to the community.  Some challenges Katelyn has faced as VP of ComServ are related to scheduling events and reserving rooms. Her solution for these issues is coordinating days and times that fit everyone’s schedules by working around the other DSP events. Serving others is an important habit to instill in people’s daily lives, and by implementing these new strategies, Katelyn has already seen progress, saying that the “new dates for upcoming events will be more flexible with brother’s schedules.” Katelyn shared that “one of my greatest accomplishments is being able to give back hundreds of community service hours throughout the past few years.” Katelyn is grateful for all the opportunities to help those in need while sharing her passion for service with others. She also advises people to “ask for help when you need it,” sharing that there is nothing wrong with relying on your peers for extra support when things are challenging. Thanks to Katelyn’s vast experience and immense passion for serving, we know she will do so many great things in this role for DSP!

  • Huge shout out to our Recruitment Chairs Izaac Carlebach and Cameron Guilbert, along with their committee for a fantastic fall recruitment season!! Overall, recruitment was golden– with 183 Potential New Members (PNMs) and 118 actives in attendance across 5 events. Izaac and Cam shared that “meeting all the amazing applicants” and “seeing how the events came to fruition after months of planning” were the highlights of their experiences in this role. 🏅Day 1: The D.S.P. Games  To kickoff recruitment week, PNM’s were given bingo sheets with fun questions to facilitate conversations and break the ice. This sheet even had fun activities like taking a picture with Izaac and shaking Cam's hand. Shoutout to recruitment committee members Phong Quach and Dannia Solorio for planning the event and designing the bingo sheets! 🏅Day 2: Mock Interviews  Recruitment week’s signature professional event, Mock Interviews, serves as an interview simulation to enhance everyone's professional skills, with an added bonus of active and guest company representative feedback on how to better answer questions to improve their interviews after each question. Shoutout to our event planners Hailey Barker and Aashna Ramani, as well as our VP of Professional Activities Mika Dubey for organizing the event. Thank you as well to the company representatives from Northwestern Mutual and American Express for joining us! 🏅Day 3: Canes & Cards  For day 3, PNMS and activists enjoyed some Canes and made cards to spread love and warmth to isolated senior citizens. In total, 186 cards were donated to Letters Against Isolation to distribute to assisted living facilities. As an added bonus, this event also accepted food donations to be sent to Pitchfork Pantry. Shoutout to our VP of Community Service Katelyn LeBlanc for organizing these partnerships, and Cam & Izaac for planning this event! 🏅Day 4: Speed Dating One of our most popular recruitment events, Speed Dating allows PNMs to meet as many activities as possible while answering engaging prompts and having fun conversations. • Get ready to meet the Gamma Omega’s Chapter Vice President of Chapter Operations, Ruth Kingswood. As VP Operations, Ruth submits forms to nationals that help highlight Gamma Omega's work. This ties into her biggest goal for this semester, which is ensuring the Chapter is recognized for its work, accomplishments, and achievements—not just by nationals but by everyone watching! Ruth was initiated in the Fall of 2023, and since then, she has always stayed involved. She has been on the marketing committee as LinkedIn chair, the IDP committee, and the Faculty Outreach Chair.   A challenge Ruth has faced both in and out of DSP has been handling unforeseen conflicts or problems that often need immediate attention. Overcoming these unforeseen challenges requires possessing solid skills, such as being willing to take responsibility, initiative, and organization when handling and resolving these. The biggest lesson Ruth has learned professionally is that life can be unpredictable, and the best you can do is be as prepared as possible for anything. In a professional sense, that means always trying to find ways to experience new things, develop yourself, and keep growing so that when life does throw something your way, you are prepared to catch it. Even though she has been active for about a year now, Ruth’s favorite memory was pledging and getting to know my brothers more. She enjoyed experiencing the chapter's opportunities, fun events, and presentations the pledges had to throw together for the actives. Ruth's consistent involvement and passion for wanting the chapter to get the recognition it deserves already foreshadow the great VP of Operations she will be! The chapter is lucky to have her!

  • For our next EC Spotlight, meet the Gamma Omega’s Chapter Vice President of Finance, Nick Whitney. Nick’s biggest goal for this semester is to start the first-ever Finance Events to give the brothers a chance to learn more about important financial topics. He also wants to streamline the budget request process for future Vice Presidents of Finance. Nick was initiated in the fall of 2023. He went out for DSP with some friends as he wanted to get integrated into the business school and ASU. He also felt somewhat behind professionally since he did not have any business classes or experiences in high school, and wanted a supportive environment to develop his professionalism. Since joining the brotherhood, Nick has been a part of the finance and recruitment committee. Through multiple semesters of recruitment mock interviews and interview workshops, Nick says that he “feels much more confident in my ability to interview and use the STAR method.” The STAR method is a structured responding technique used by interviewees to allow them to answer every question professionally and to the best of their abilities. Learning this technique has allowed Nick to improve what he deemed “one of my weakest qualities” when applying for jobs/internships. DSP has given Nick the opportunity to build his confidence through “having the support of all the brothers.” Nick shares that being part of DSP has allowed him to set himself “on the right track to achieving my professional goals” while being surrounded by a great group of people. Nick’s strong understanding of finance and passion for helping others understand this topic is why he is going to do an amazing job managing DSP finances. Our chapter is so excited to see what Nick and the rest of his finance committee accomplish this semester!
