The Athens Area Humane Society was approached by shelter partners in South Carolina to assist with essential supplies for pet families struggling in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Our caravan departs from Athens, GA heading to Greenville, SC for the first stop to assist rescue groups helping pets in rural shelters and evacuation facilities. If you would like to donate any of the items below, we're loading the vans at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 3rd, so we can accept your generous donations until that time at our animal care facility located at 1030 Mitchell Bridge Road in Athens. Thank you for helping. Without YOU. There's no THEM. 🐾 #helpthehelpers #lookforthehelpers #community #nonprofit #shelterpets

About us
The Athens Area Humane Society is a donor supported no-kill 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to lowering area euthanasia rates through adoption, spay/neuter, and pet retention programs. It is so important to focus on the rescue and care of animals who would otherwise be euthanized. We are a group of animal welfare activists who started Athens Area Humane Society nearly three decades ago. Our mission is to rescue, spay/neuter, and find homes for animals in Georgia and beyond. THE ATHENS AREA HUMANE SOCIETY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT BECAUSE WE... -Rescue and care for more than 5,000 animals each year; many of these animals are at risk of being euthanized. -Have been helping animals in our community for over 25 years. -Are a private, nonprofit organization that does not receive funding from, and is not affiliated with, any national humane organizations, such as the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States. -Spay and Neuter over 4,000 animals each year with a full time surgeon on staff. -Do not receive government funding. -Help communities deal with feral cats by offering a low cost feral package to keep the population under control. -Depend on the generosity of individual and corporate supporters to fund our programs and services. -Find responsible, loving homes for approximately 1,000 animals each year. -Provide low cost vaccinations to over 1,500 animals each year at our clinics. -Educate the public concerning animal welfare and pet owner responsibility through school visits and social outreach. Most importantly, realize that our efforts on behalf of the animals would not be possible without you. Your donations allow us to continue to run our programs and services. Your generosity has enabled us to expand our coverage and develop new ideas to help our animal friends. Your gift of volunteer hours makes the labor light and the work go farther. On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, we would like to thank you, the members of our wonderful community,

Hey, Georgia friends and fur-kid parents. Check out this sweetheart! Lucy is a six-month-old poodle who will be coming to the Athens Area Humane Society as a rehomed pet. She's spayed, 40 lbs., is great with other dogs and children (cats unknown), and loves to cuddle, go for walks, and be with her family. Unfortunately, a child in Lucy's family struggles with acute sensory disorder, and a family pet can be challenging. Rehoming is the best option. Want to schedule a meet-and-greet with Lucy and submit an application for her adoption? She arrives on Monday, July 1st (time TBD); text or email if you'd like me to connect you with AAHS's amazing adoption team. Poodles typically don't do well in shelters. Our goal is to prevent her from staying even one night. If you have room in your heart and your home for Lucy, she may be your next best friend and beloved family member (cheryl@athenshumanesociety.org; 831-238-8305). 🐾 #cute #poodle #doodle #rescueyournextpet #petparent #adoptdontshop #savealife #shelterdog #rescuepet #athensga #athens
