"I had barely moved in, and we had already been invited to the Yappy Hour Dog Show," shares Gaylene about moving into Atria Cinco Ranch with her 16-year-old Shih Tzu named Bliss. "Everyone was so friendly!" "Some of the dogs were reluctant to walk down the red carpet, but not Bliss. He was all too happy to strut his stuff," she laughs. "It is wonderful to live in a community that welcomes and celebrates our pets." We think all the pups deserve to win Best in Show! 🥇

"I absolutely love the virtual trips," Lorraine shares excitedly. "Every time I attend one, I’m amazed even more. It’s such a unique and fun experience." Lorraine and her fellow residents at Atria Golden Creek are invited to set sail for virtual destinations twice a month. "My favorite part was getting to experience Spain. I recently read about Spain, and being able to see it through the VR headset brought everything to life." "I’m incredibly thankful to the Golden Creek team for putting together such wonderful programs that keep us busy and active," she adds. "I feel very lucky to be part of the Golden Creek family." We feel so lucky to have you as part of the Atria family, too, Lorraine!

"I began drawing as a teenager. I was encouraged by my schoolteacher and parents, who were both artists," shares Portia. Starting out working with pastels and oil paints, she eventually became an accomplished artist and teacher, with a focus on painting and sculpture. "I've had contracts with the Navy and Air Force to make sculptures commemorating former pilots. Some of these sculptures are in the National Naval Aviation Museum," she tells us. "I still paint weekly," she adds. Her home at Atria Forest Hills has several of her pieces on display for her fellow residents to enjoy, and earlier this year they held a special showcase of her work. Thank you for sharing your wonderful artwork with your community, Portia! 👩🎨

"Your world is only as large as you’re able to make it," reflects Cliffa, a resident at Atria Grapevine. "In visiting the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, my world got a little bigger." The team at Grapevine took a trip to learn about the fascinating history of cowgirls. "It was all about strong women," shares Lynne, another resident. "We’ve heard about some of the legends, like Annie Oakley, but it was nice to learn so much more about all these ladies who were so brave and tough." "I loved it. This museum reminded us of the history we actually lived through as we revisited memories," Cliffa adds. "We learned, we had fun and we had barbecue! Who wouldn’t want to do that?"

Where you see Theresa, you'll find Annie. These ladies are the definition of BFFs! Meeting at Atria Briarcliff Manor over dinner one night, they became fast friends and have been by each other's sides for five years. "We bonded after we discovered that we both arrived in the United States around the same time of year in 1954," shares Annie. "I came from Ireland, and Theresa is from Italy." "We live right across the hall from one another, and every morning without fail I knock on Annie's door, and we head down the hall to get breakfast together," Theresa shares. And for the rest of that day, and every day, you'll find these beautiful friends side by side. Annie adds, "It was fate that brought us together. It's like having a sister right next door." "They really are a bright light in the community," shares Bridget, the community's Engage Life Director. "I love watching them together. They are always up for trying something new."

At Atria Golden Creek, three residents discovered a unique connection through the Resident Match Program — not only do they now all call California home, but they also all grew up in Dorchester, MA. Joel, Marilyn and Yvonne, now active members of their community, enjoy reminiscing about their shared hometown, trading memories such as where they went to school and where they got their first jobs. Whether sharing a meal or playing games of Scrabble and Bingo, their newfound friendship shows how small the world can be.
