As a direct source of parenteral medicines, compounding pharmacies play a crucial role in the healthcare ecosystem, and there is no clearer illustration of this than in times of drug shortage. As the recent GLP-1 shortages have shown, 503 entities answer the call to support pharmaceutical supply chains time and time again. With this segment of the industry continuing to mature, there’s also an ongoing need for enhanced operator-friendly processes, improved risk reduction measures, and consistent, high-quality product output. If compounding pharmacies are to build on their commitment to delivering safe, timely drug products, automated technology that utilizes pre-sterilized ready-to-use packaging is the clear path forward.
