Avenues to Independence is featured on the iconic Wintrust Mural Billboard along the Kennedy Expressway starting this week! This exciting project has been in the works for several months and will provide tremendous exposure for Avenues. We are grateful to Avenues to Independence Foundation Board member Paul Carlisle, a Wintrust executive and the catalyst for this once in a lifetime opportunity.   Riva Michal from Sasser Family Companies was chosen from a group of finalists to design the artwork for the mural. Her work is a vibrant, bold, and a fresh depiction of our mission at Avenues. The mural represents the people of Avenues, highlighting some of the many ways in which clients live life to the fullest and positively impact our community.   The mural, located at 1735 N. Ashland, can be seen on the south and west side of the Kennedy Expressway between North and Armitage Avenues. Last week, the annual Sasser Society Dinner was held at the Park Ridge Country Club. The event was hosted by Fred and Pam Sasser and welcomed new members Dirk and Tracy Ahlbeck, as well as Avenues CEO Stephen Kray and Elaina Kray. The Sasser Society includes individuals who have made future commitments to Avenues through their will, trust, or estate plan.   The legacy began in the 1960s with Fred's parents Doris and Robert Sasser, whose philanthropy supported the independence and dignity at Avenues. Since its inception, the Sasser Society has more than 90 members and has raised nearly $4 million in planned giving. An increase for Direct Support Professional (DSP) wages is currently not included in this year’s Illinois state budget. They Deserve More is circulating a letter and collecting as many signatures as possible before the end of the day today, Wednesday, May 8 to encourage Illinois legislators to support DSPs with an increase in their pay.
