Thank you to Francesco Giovine and Riccardo Andrea Baricci, PE, PMP, LEED AP for giving us such an exciting and thorough facade viewing tour of the Getty Residences off the Highline in NYC! We looked at design and construction drawings and visually analyzed the facade for joints. Made possible by the generous support of AZA US Corporation for our Society of Façade Engineering North America Hub ‘s CityWalks!

Thanks to all that attended our Citywalk tours of The Getty and 111 Wall Street! We were super impressed by these projects, including: 🧩 Mosaic-like units at The Getty ️🔥 Novel management of heat in metal panels and glass 💡 Making the most of thermal and space constraints for re-cladding at 111 Wall Street ⚡ Incorporating electrochromic glass across an entire facade Special shout out to AZA US Corporation and Walter P Moore for walking us through these innovative projects and sharing your secrets! Follow us here for more updates! ----- #facades #architecture #reclad #facadeengineering #glass #curtainwall

🌍 Preparing for the Future of Architecture: Insights from Eric Haggstrom at JCJ Architecture As the built environment faces increasing challenges from extreme weather events—ranging from heat waves to floods—architecture plays a pivotal role in fostering resilience and sustainability. In a recent conversation with Eric Haggstrom, Director of Sustainability at JCJ Architecture, we explored how architectural firms are adapting to the realities of climate change. Eric emphasizes the importance of integrating climate projections into building design. For instance, in flood-prone regions like New England, architects must prioritize strategies that manage stormwater and use sustainable materials to ensure buildings can withstand future conditions. Key takeaways from our discussion include: - Proactive Design: Design teams should treat future climate forecasts as current realities, preparing buildings for the challenges of the next 20-50 years. - Resilience Strategies: Incorporating native vegetation, reducing impervious surfaces, and implementing green stormwater management systems are vital for creating adaptable buildings. - Collaborative Education: Architects must educate clients about climate risks, fostering a shared vision for resilient design. Discover all the answers of Eric Haggstorm here:

🌍 Reducing Bird Strikes: Innovative Approaches in Architecture Did you know that up to a billion birds die each year due to collisions with buildings and skyscrapers?  These tragic incidents often occur because birds are distracted by lights or reflections, unaware of the dangers posed by glass. In response to this critical issue, architects are adopting new bird-friendly glass designs in their projects, aiming to create safer environments for migrating birds. Alongside these architectural innovations, public-awareness campaigns are playing a significant role in promoting bird safety, leading to positive changes in how we approach building design. As we strive for more sustainable and wildlife-friendly urban landscapes, it’s essential to integrate solutions that not only enhance our built environment but also protect the natural world around us. 🏢 Historic American Skyscrapers: Woolworth Building The Woolworth Building, often hailed as the "Cathedral of Commerce," stands as a monumental example of early 20th-century Gothic Revival architecture in New York City. Completed in 1913 and designed by renowned architect Cass Gilbert, this skyscraper was commissioned by retail magnate Frank W. Woolworth as the headquarters for his burgeoning retail empire. At 792 feet tall with 60 stories, it was the tallest building in the world upon completion and held that title until 1930. The building's intricate terracotta façade and striking Gothic detailing symbolize the ambition and elegance of its era. The Woolworth Building is celebrated not only for its architectural splendor but also for its innovative structural design. It was one of the first skyscrapers to utilize a steel frame, which allowed for its unprecedented height and solid construction. Its soaring lobby, adorned with mosaics, marble, and bronze fittings, continues to impress visitors as one of the most luxurious interior spaces in Manhattan. Over the decades, the Woolworth Building has undergone several renovations to maintain its historic grandeur while accommodating modern needs. Today, it houses both commercial and residential spaces, remaining a vibrant part of New York City's skyline. Join us as we delve into the stories behind more of America's iconic skyscrapers! 🌆
