After nearly 10 years idle, the same pipeline behind one of California’s worst oil spills is on the brink of restarting. Azul's Chief of Staff, Priscilla Miller, and Operations Manager, Richelle Poblete, joined the Center for Biological Diversity to oppose the restart of the offshore oil platforms that devastated Refugio State Beach in 2015. #EndOffshoreDrilling #EndFossilFuels The California Coastal Commission has already issued a stop-work order for Sable’s Santa Ynez Unit and must continue to take action to #ProtectOurCoasts!

The devastation of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton is a stark reminder of the growing climate crisis driven by the fossil fuel industry. Please continue to share and support the incredible efforts of local organizations providing on-the-ground assistance. It's time for #OceanClimateAction.

Today, the Azul team spoke at the California Coastal Commission meeting to thank the Commission for issuing a stop work order on Sable’s Santa Ynez Unit! This is the same pipeline that spilled hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil that caused horrific damage to Refugio State Beach in 2015. A restart could be disastrous. Our communities have seen enough. A majority of Latino voters in California – 54% – would support actions to ban offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, even if it means paying more per month for gasoline and household gas, according to the 2024 National #AzulPoll. We encourage the Commission to continue to take strong actions to protect our coastline and coastal communities by making sure that the Santa Ynez Unit restart is halted until all proper oversight and environmental review is established. #EndOffshoreDrilling #EndFossilFuels Center for Biological Diversity

“We are a fifth of the whole country. If we want to make a difference on issues as important as ocean health, we need to be talking to Latinos and involving Latinos.” As founder of Azul, a non-profit organization working to conserve marine resources, Marce Gutiérrez-Graudiņš works to engage Latino communities in the marine conservation movement. NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) U.S. Department of the Interior
