In a change from his approach during his first administration, President Donald Trump seems poised to embrace cryptocurrency and its deregulation. In a piece on the topic, Salon.com quoted Terence Grugan, a partner on our Blockchain Technology and Cryptocurrency Team. “The expected absence of enforcement in the cryptocurrency market does not mean there are no legitimate issuers and products; it means the illegitimate ones may multiply and the maxim ‘buyer beware’ takes on greater importance,” he said. “As with any investment or any product with a fluctuating value, buyers and users should seek as much information as possible about the product before exchanging their own hard currency for crypto.” Read more of the article here: https://bit.ly/3RpbU6F #BallardLitigation #Crypto #Cryptocurrency

Katie Noonan and Desmond D. Connall, Jr. had reason to cheer at the Washington Business Journal's Best Real Estate Deal Awards event. Our client CoStar Group took home Virginia Deal of the Year for its acquisition of Central Place Tower, a transaction in which Ballard Spahr represented CoStar as purchaser! It was an extra special evening, because the Ballard Spahr team got to congratulate firm alumna Maia Shanklin Roberts (at right), as she accepted the Nonprofit Developer of the Year award on behalf of her organization, Preservation of Affordable Housing.

FinCEN has issued an interim final rule that revises and narrows the definition of “reporting company” to mean only those entities formerly known as “foreign reporting companies.” Entities previously known as “domestic reporting companies” (including any and all entities created in the U.S.) are now exempt from beneficial ownership information reporting requirements under the Corporate Transparency Act. In this Alert, our lawyers tracking the CTA explore the latest developments and highlight the key points companies should be aware of, including newly issued exemptions by FinCEN that bring relief and some clarity – at least for now – for many small businesses operating in the U.S. Read the full alert here: https://bit.ly/3QNcj2C #CTA #BOI #CorporateTransparency
