Global economic forces to 👀 for the week of 14 October, according to our Research team. 👇 ◾US CPI #inflation surprised to the upside for a second consecutive month and initial jobless claims jumped. However, our analysts retain their call for the #FOMC to cut 25bp at the November meeting. ◾There’s an expectation that the #ECB will cut rates by 25bp this week, but provide no assurances about December. The outlook remains cloudy in Germany, and France's budget struggle highlights fiscal pressures. ◾Amid further evidence that the UK economy is decelerating while the labour market gradually cools, it’s possible the Chancellor will adjust the fiscal rule to free up more space ahead of the budget. ◾Emerging Asia central banks continued to take divergent approaches to easing, with the Reserve Bank of India on hold and Bank of Korea cutting 25bp. ◾EEMEA central banks are set to keep rates on hold for longer, amid upside surprises to inflation (Turkiye), #geopolitics (Israel), delays to IMF talks (Egypt), and #FX pressure and a fiscal impulse (Kazakhstan).

We focused on how to boost corporate confidence to ensure Britain remains a hub for innovation and business while attracting investment to modernise the UK’s infrastructure, like its water system, and growing the biodiversity net gain market. Attending the International Investment Summit has reaffirmed my belief in the UK’s potential to lead on the global stage and reminded me of the values I grew up with – resilience, hard work, and a deep sense of responsibility and stewardship. The results are in for our Research team’s latest survey in partnership with Vogue Business, exploring #luxurygoods spending in China and its territories. Here are the key takeaways: 👗 Vogue readers allocated a higher budget on luxury goods compared to Q2. 👜 For the first time in 2024, small leather goods were the most-purchased category. ⌚ Pre-loved fashion is proving desirable, with 46% of consumers surveyed purchasing second hand and/or vintage luxury goods in the past year. 🇺🇸 Cautious spending may return as a result of macroeconomic factors such as the US-China relationship. ✈️ Chinese luxury consumers are less likely to travel internationally than previously, instead opting to travel within China.
