Love to see it! Don't forget our CEO Luke Marshall will be at SaaStr in the next few weeks. Hit him up if you want to talk value creation or all things metrics! Don't feel bad if you can't understand the Aussie accent or what it means to be flat out like a lizard drinking. We still don't know...
Top three reasons we have won clients from competitors this month: 1. Accuracy- Our metrics are calculated in real time and are updated even before the payment gateway in most cases. We literally see the Stripe event recorded in Slack before it even updates the Stripe charts. Further, our metrics represent actual transactions. An active customer should only be included if they are paying you! People will argue that an active subscription should be enough and fair enough if you have a high trust in your clients ability to. Personally in the current economic times and for a bootstrapped company focussed on profitability, cash in the bank is what matters the most. 2. Support and Response times- Our internal SLA is a sub five minute response time during business hours and more often than not our average is closer to one minute depending on meetings. Our first message is always, "can we get on a call?". This is sometimes met with a chuckle from the prospect who tells us we are the first ones who actually wanted to get on a call with them as they compare similar platforms. For us it is simple- increase the bandwidth of the conversation, put a face to the name and if a resolution can't be reached on call, gather as much intelligence as we can to speed up the final remedy. This is reflected time and time again in our G2 reviews and private messages I get from clients praising our support team for their responsiveness and attention to detail. 3. Total Cost of Ownership- once prospective clients see that they can connect Stripe, Shopify, Chargebee, App Store, Google Play all at once and not be charged for each connector it becomes a no brainer. Did I mention we have an ROI guarantee on our Recover (dunning) tool? Free access to our advanced Forecast+ module that allows you to sync your Xero or QuickBooks Online? Create multiple future scenarios and see the impact on your burn rate, profitability, expense management and much more linking your current revenue success with future growth. In a time when clients are consolidating costs across multiple vendors, they are seeking more all in one platforms but most importantly, platforms that only charge them for what they actually use. Max value, minimum fluff, stellar support. I love getting on demos when prospective clients are in their consideration phase. The challenge of winning business over a competitor rarely comes down to price, it comes down to value. That is the challenge our teams face with every interaction, every support ticket, every feature request and every email. Prove we are worthy of a clients hard earned revenue and that we will continually fight to help them grow and fulfil their own value to the market.

Check out our CEO doing the heavy lifting outside the office! Luke Marshall is a big believer of just getting stuff done and then figuring out how to scale later. He loves the grind and is quick to say "just ship it" if we have been trying to polish a project for too long. Strongest CEO in SaaS? Challenge him to an arm wrestle at SaaStr conference in September and see!
LinkedIn is becoming Instagram for SaaS Anyone that knows me knows I like to keep fit and regularly lift heavy things. Like most people I follow some influencers on social media but I am more inclined to tune in to the old school dudes that just throw around the iron. One such old dude, Mike Van Wyck, said something the other day that lit me up like a light bulb. Commenting on the proliferation of "optimal training methods" where younger fitness influencers preach about optimal time under tension, exacting range of motions, precise mind muscle connection, it promotes over complication of what can be a pretty simple endeavour- get stronger. His prescription? Sometimes you just need to go in and know what it feels like to lift heavy. Focus on a few core lifts and just lift heavy. Majority of the guys promoting optimal training methods, spend so much time on trying to figure out the optimal way to do things they stifle progression they would otherwise see from just "lifting heavy." Newcomers become so focussed on optimising from the start they take forever to see real progress. I see the same thing here on LinkedIn and I am as guilty as the next tech leader, espousing optimal methods for metric analysis, funnel management, sales tactics etc. It can be daunting for a fresh founder to figure out the exact way to do things. My advice? Go in and lift heavy for a while. Pick some basics to focus on and do things that don't scale. Need to send manual emails to every lead until you figure out the perfect subject line to increase open rates? Do it. Need to take calls at all hours of the day until you find a sustainable source of leads in a decent time-zone? Do it. Need to use a scrappy spreadsheet to track leads, funnel metrics and revenue until it becomes so unmanageable you have to do something about it? Do it. My point is we can focus so much on optimising from the start that we can sometimes forget what we are optimising for. To grow. So don't let the optimal methods bog you down, keep them in the back of your mind but in the early days just go in and lift heavy.
