And that’s a wrap on my first SXSW with Mercury - finally caught up from a quick trip back to ATX. Last weekend, we brought together over 50 founders and investors to connect with one another and our team at Uptown Sports Club - a historical piece of east Austin that’s kept its “same soul” from when it initially opened in 1949. My personal favorite parts of the event were…. 🏗️ Being able to meet and hear directly from founders about what they’re building - glad we got time to connect in-person Clint & Derek. 🧥 Seeing the excitement of attendees picking up their custom denim jacket. Even cooler was bumping into an attendee wearing their jacket later that evening on the east side. 🥩 And who could forget the food. Having food from culinary icon Aaron Franklin and team on-site, as well as a Franklin BBQ spice rub as a giveaway, definitely didn’t hurt. Major kudos to the team, especially Kelly for putting such a thoughtful event together. As always, if you have any questions about Mercury or want to learn more about how we can support your team as you continue to build, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Another great #SXSW in the books! This past weekend, Mercury partnered with Dentons and the National Venture Capital Association to bring together over 200 VCs at the Capital Factory VC Brunch. Was great to run into Mercury VC fund customers Ali Mackani and Kristina Chapple there! Great to catch up with Christina Valencia Austria, Nia Pryce, Satoko K., and Jason A. Vita there as well. We then partnered with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP for the Athletes & Innovators party. Nick Mider and Ben Kromnick way to kill it on the organization. Thanks Cherae Robinson and Alex Wittenberg for stopping by and saying hi! But my favorite event may be the more intimate dinner we hosted with Rajiv Bala and Steve Coffey of Clutch VC. In a cave-like wine cellar, we gathered over a dozen emerging manager VCs for some great conversation, tacos, and tequila. There is so much going on at SXSW, with competing events and massive parties, it can be easy to feel FOMO, but the reason I keep coming back is not for the large parties, but for these intimate moments to sit down and get to know people over the course of an evening or a weekend. Thanks to Mercury VC fund customers Tim Hsia, Jason Fernandez, Nick Tippmann 🏔️☁️, Joy Jing for joining us! I'm excited to have met Higinio Maycotte, Joe Magyer, Ben Freeberg, Pat F., Nick Candito 🌥, Jon Broscious, Peter T., Wesley Gottesman. Great to see you there Katelyn Donnelly and Pete Mathias! "It's harder to break up with a board member than get a divorce." Brittany Walker, General Partner at CRV, believes one of the biggest mistakes a founder can make when fundraising for their Series A (and potentially bringing on their first external board member) is not creating the right target list. 🎯 Watch to find out why 👇
