"Empower personal excellence in every learner.”
About us
The Barrington 220 School District is a nationally recognized preK-12 school district, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The school district is geographically located in four counties: Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry. Barrington 220 has one high school, two middle school campuses for grades 6-8, eight elementary schools, one early childhood center, and a transition center for special education students who are 18-22 years old. The first Barrington school was a one-room schoolhouse, which opened in 1835. However, it wasn’t until 1973 that the Barrington 220 School District officially formed. Since then Barrington 220 has become known for its innovative curriculum, rich history, and sense of community. Our mission is to empower personal excellence in every learner. Our schools have earned a total of 12 National Blue Ribbon Awards and nearly 90% of our teachers have earned a master’s degree or higher.

Last month Barrington 220 Educational Foundation trustees had a chance to tour the BHS drawing and painting classroom and the BHS ceramics classroom, which were renovated over the summer. At its 25th anniversary gala last spring, the Foundation raised more than $300,000 and has committed $440,000 to help transform these two spaces, as well as to build an outdoor art and foundry learning space which the district will begin working on this school year. Some updates included new flooring, better-suited storage space and cabinetry, and accessibility features to make the classrooms more inclusive. View pictures of the tour, courtesy of Jeffrey M. Our successful $147M referendum in March 2020 allowed Barrington 220 to build dedicated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Labs at all eight of our elementary schools, a unique opportunity for our students that not many school districts can provide. A successful referendum on November 5, 2024 will enhance STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) spaces at BHS and modernize science classrooms at Station Campus and Prairie Campus. If the referendum passes, a career pathways addition will also be built at BHS. This will be a space where students can work with large-scale equipment (i.e. large 3D printers, flight simulators) LEARN MORE: https://lnkd.in/gYb639Pe Photo: Students work in the new STEM Lab at North Barrington Elementary
