Mya Davis, a rising senior at South Elgin High School’s BEACON Academy of Media & Digital Arts, spent part of her summer in Washington D.C. at the 2024 Washington Journalism and Media conference at George Mason University. Mya represented the State of Illinois as a National Youth Correspondent, participating in a week-long experiential learning program for exceptional high school students interested in journalism and media. Navigating the ever-changing landscape of media can be challenging, but Mya learned how the “power of yes,” can set her apart from others in the field. “It is now instilled in me that if I want to stand out, I have to say yes to things that may be out of my comfort zone,” said Mya. She hopes to major in broadcast and digital journalism, as well as political science and hopes to use her experience at the conference to help guide her to become a journalist. #U46Proud
