You are invited to a community meeting on Thursday, August 8, at 6 p.m. to learn more about the building and site design, construction timeline, and other details for the new school building. Mya Davis, a rising senior at South Elgin High School’s BEACON Academy of Media & Digital Arts, spent part of her summer in Washington D.C. at the 2024 Washington Journalism and Media conference at George Mason University. Mya represented the State of Illinois as a National Youth Correspondent, participating in a week-long experiential learning program for exceptional high school students interested in journalism and media. Navigating the ever-changing landscape of media can be challenging, but Mya learned how the “power of yes,” can set her apart from others in the field. “It is now instilled in me that if I want to stand out, I have to say yes to things that may be out of my comfort zone,” said Mya. She hopes to major in broadcast and digital journalism, as well as political science and hopes to use her experience at the conference to help guide her to become a journalist. #U46Proud

Make sure to mark Saturday, Nov. 2, on your calendar. That’s when the Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation and the U-46 Educational Foundation are presenting a major celebration of Mexican culture. The Day of the Dead Festival will feature a festival, displays, and a family-friendly 5K called El Trote De Las Calacas (the Skeleton Trot). Early bird race registration opens on July 1 at gailborden.info/trote.

🎓 Yesterday, we celebrated the over 100 seniors who dedicated their summer to completing the necessary coursework for their high school diplomas. The students were celebrated at South Elgin High School, where they walked across the stage to recieve their diplomas in front of family and friends. Congrats #U46Classof2024! You did it!

Students in the U-46 Summer Theatre Program have been running dress rehearsals for their performance run of Carrie: The Musical, a production based on the Stephen King novel. Students from all five comprehensive high schools are represented in this musical. Public performance start today. The rest of the dates are as follows: Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 pm Friday, June 28 at 7:00 pm Saturday, June 29 at 12:00 pm Saturday, June 29 at 7:00 pm All performances will be held in the Bartlett High School Auditorium, 701 W. Schick Road, Bartlett, IL 60103. Tickets are $10 per general admission seat and can be purchased the day of the performance at the box office with cash or check, or can be purchased ahead of time with credit card at u46.booktix.net/ The musical is approximately 2 hours and has mild adult themes.

School District U-46 was recognized as one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” by The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for the sixth year in a row. To celebrate the honor, U-46 Fine Arts Coordinator Jaimie Giraldo accepted an Accent on Achievement certificate from the Board of Education. “Our dedicated music educators and supportive community have created an environment where students can thrive and develop their musical talents," Giraldo said. Students from Heritage Elementary School, Tefft Middle School, and Streamwood High School, plus Heritage Elementary Principal Catherine Fletcher and Parkwood Elementary literacy coach Jennifer Collins, were honored recently at the Hanover Township Celebration of Leadership. Despite the rain, our LGBTQ+ affinity group showed up and shined at the Elgin Pride Parade and Festival last weekend. Proud to stand together and celebrate love, diversity, and inclusion.
