Spotting talent early is a crucial factor in venture capital - and few people are better at it than Lan Xuezhao at Basis Set. I first met Lan through our All Raise cohort, and I was immediately impressed by her approach to finding high-potential early-stage companies. She has an incredible knack for identifying founders who excel in one key area - whether it's technical expertise or a brilliant go-to-market strategy. They always have a gift in some aspect that puts them in the top 1%, and Lan has a gift for spotting them. And, even more, founders give her that same energy back. Even without pro-rata rights, Assembled’s CEO Ryan Wang and his team insisted that Lan maintain her ownership because of how much they value her hands-on involvement and guidance. Lan is differentiated in her ability to spot potential across many different industries while commanding the respect of everyone at the table. Her integrity, knowledge, and work ethic make her an investor at the top of her class - and I’m grateful I get the chance to work with her and continue our collaboration!
