In 2023, BCNC embarked on strategic planning process, engaging key stakeholders to reaffirm a commitment to our mission. As we move forward, BCNC remains a trusted resource, supporting new immigrants, especially Asians, with the resources they need to thrive in the United States. This process marks the beginning of a new chapter. BCNC has grown from a small community initiative in Boston Chinatown into an organization offering a broad range of holistic, family-centered programs and services. With deep roots in Boston's Chinatown, we reach 13,000 children, youth, and adults each year across three locations in Greater Boston, setting them up for success in school, work, and life. We also build vibrant communities through Pao Arts Center and our collaborations and research efforts. In the coming months, we look forward to sharing stories from this new chapter - stories that highlight the impact we make on children as they grow with us into adults, the ways we strengthen family well-being, the opportunities we create to amplify the voices of Boston Chinatown, and our expansion beyond Chinatown. We also will share stories about the partnerships we are building and the research and advocacy we engage in to drive systemic change for our community. We are excited to introduce a new logo that reflects this new chapter. The updated design builds on our original logo, which featured a house with the Chinese character for “person” as the roof. The new logo features multiple stacked roofs that point upward, symbolizing the limitless potential of those we serve. The multiple roofs represent: - Community – We impact many individuals, families, and communities. - Continual Growth – We serve different ages, and we see families grow through our programs. - Multiple Locations – We have expanded to multiple locations. Thank you for being a part of BCNC’s journey. We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to sharing more with you soon! Special thanks to Tammy Tai, Zamawa Arenas of Flowetik, and Sarah Rainwater of Studio Rainwater for their guidance into BCNC’s latest chapter.

On September 28th, 2024, BCNC Acorn Center for Early Education & Care celebrated its 50th anniversary. The event brought together current and former staff and participants, as well as community partners to reflect on half a century of impactful dual language Chinese and English early education and dedicated service to immigrant families. We also honored Master Teacher and Assistant Director, Lai Chan for 43 years of teaching at BCNC. Her commitment and lasting impact on children and families was recognized by City of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn. Lai Chan’s niece shared about her aunt in a heartfelt speech. “I witnessed first-hand how she has touched the lives of countless children and families over the years. She is passionate about her work, not just because it’s her job, but because she genuinely cares about people. Many of her friends and colleagues call her “Si Fu”, which means master, because of her wisdom and mentorship. Lai is not just an incredible teacher – she is a leader and a pillar of the Chinatown community.” - Melissa Li Special thanks to everyone who joined us for this celebration and to those who contributed to our programs. Our new chapter involves Creating Pathways for individuals, families, and communities. We have track record of supporting individual children, youth, and adults to succeed in the US. Jamessey, a BCNC adult student, shared, “When I first arrived in the US, I felt like all the doors were closed for me. Now that I have finished the BCNC class, I feel like everything is open for me.” We recognize every individual that comes to BCNC, is a part of a family. So, we take a holistic, family-centered approach to serving new immigrants. By understanding a family’s experiences and strengths, we build on their abilities and desire to succeed in the US. Fanny shared her experience: “I first came to BCNC just to learn English. Then I found out that there are many more programs I can join. When I had a baby, I wanted her to come to BCNC for child care since I had studied here before. I was also able to attend a citizenship class, parenting workshops, and healthy cooking classes.” We strengthen communities by promoting wellness through arts and culture, building collaborations, and engaging in research to find solutions that improve the quality of life for all. A youth participant of this summer’s mural project shared, “Learning about Chinatown’s history and creating art that represents our community made me proud and inspired to contribute to a healthier, more vibrant neighborhood.” Stay tuned for more stories about our new chapter.
