SMU wide receiver Roderick Daniels Jr. follows Rashee Rice’s lead in planting the #SMU midfield flag at an opponent’s home turf. This feat comes after the SMU Mustangs pulled off an incredible upset last Saturday, winning against the defending AAC champion Tulane Green Wave with 26-14! The victory gives SMU Mustangs their first conference title since winning the Southwest Conference in 1984. What a great ending to a phenomenal championship conference! SMU Mustangs pulled off plays that limited the competition’s offense and secured the yards and completions to clinch the AAC title. Despite being tasked with filling in for injured Preston Stone, quarterback Kevin Jennings rose to the challenge. And Roderick certainly did not disappoint, working with Jennings and others to set the tone for the rest of the game. Where Roderick stands in the video is where Rashee Rice, the now wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, stood a couple years ago after their win against TCU. Roderick’s versality in mind and movement and infectious football spirit mirrors his former teammate’s and are big reasons why The Fields Companies signed him to an NIL agreement earlier this year. Their comradery transformed this sponsorship into a special passing of the torch that we hold in high regard. During the second quarter with a 42-7 lead, Mustangs starting quarterback Preston Stone was carted off the field with a broken leg. Backup quarterback Kevin Jennings will be taking his place. In a 55-0 wipeout of Temple in Philadelphia, Roderick wove through the entire Owls put team along the right sideline for a 67-yard touchdown – the first SMU punt return since 2013. We got a runner! Last Saturday, Southern Methodist University wide receiver Roderick Daniels Jr. finished with 3 receptions for 96 yards in the Mustangs’ 69-0 victory over Prairie View A&M, including a 91-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. For the season, he has accumulated five catches for 105 yards – including the aforementioned touchdown grab. But Roderick is more than just a wide receiver. Whether it’s making catches, returning punts and kicks, or fighting in the thick of it all as a running back, Roderick is a versatile force to be reckoned with. The Mustangs play TCU this Saturday in a nationally televised game on FS1 at 11AM in the annual “Battle for the Iron Skillet.” The Fields Companies is looking forward to another exciting game. #PonyUp!!!
