  • Happy Halloween! Our fellowship events don’t end when our workday does. Thanks to our People, Appreciation, & Connection Team (PACT) for hosting last night's Halloween-themed mixer! This popular after-hours event gave our employees the opportunity to enjoy some treats from a trick-or-treat candy bar and to participate in a friendly competition for best Halloween costume. It was a great way to end their mid-week workday!

  • BPMI’s Penny (and Dollar) War is an event organized by our Fleet Support department that has quickly become a beloved annual BPMI tradition, all in the name of raising money for breast cancer awareness. This year’s event took on a new twist, with professionals squaring off against management. Employees placed their donations in the jar of the professional or manager they wanted to see take a pie to the face at the concluding lunch-time Pink Pie Day Party. It looks like a lot of fun—and it is!—but organizers and participants alike take their fundraising efforts very seriously. Unprecedented participation resulted in a donation of nearly $9000 for ONE DAY TO REMEMBER, a Pittsburgh-based charity that gives individuals and families affected by late-stage cancer a day to enjoy each other’s company and forget about the stresses of daily life. We were thrilled to welcome charity representatives at this year’s finale to share their mission with our employees through videos and a brief presentation from their founder. We’re proud to do our part to make the communities in which we live and work a better place for everyone. #BPMIproud #peoplegetthingsdone #breastcancerawareness

  • BPMI recently welcomed Rear Admiral Tom Anderson, Program Executive Office, Ships (PEO Ships), and Captain Matthew Tardy, US Navy Amphibious Warfare Program Manager, to our Monroeville headquarters for an early morning breakfast brief. In their presentations, RADM Anderson and CAPT Tardy gave us a better understanding of Navy shipbuilding activities and discussed the status of the future USS PITTSBURGH (LPD 31), a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock. BPMI's close proximity to downtown Pittsburgh makes our workforce especially eager to learn more about its namesake and the fifth Navy vessel to be named after the Steel City. Our Navy Link Team, who hosted the event, strives to enhance the connection of BPMI’s daily work to the Navy’s mission. #worldclassshipbuilding #acquisitionexcellence #theforcebehindthefleet

  • Teamwork is vital to our everyday business, so we look for creative ways to engage in fellowship throughout the year. This month, we hosted a crowd favorite—our annual ice cream social! Managers from all departments took the time to talk with and serve employees their favorite ice cream, which was then decorated with toppings of every size, shape, and taste. The ice cream may have been cold, but employees and managers shared warm conversations and smiles as they built their sundaes and learned a little more about each other.

  • Our workforce boasts a diverse range of talents and experiences that support both our work and our people. Recently, Adam Jones, BPMI employee, Veteran, and author, shared his personal talents and experiences with us through a powerful talk, "The Silent Struggle Within High Performers." Through an honest discussion on tough topics, Adam provided us with tools we can all use to help shift our mindsets, build resilience, and align our work with a greater sense of purpose. #mentalhealth #BPMIProud #peoplegetthingsdone

  • On this day in #navalhistory, the 1915 arrival of the submarines under the care of the tender USS Ozark (BM-7) and USS Tonopah (BM-8) gave the Naval Submarine Base, New London, new life. Previously used as a naval yard and storage depot, the space became the Navy's first submarine base and the "Home of the Submarine Force." To read more about how the base expanded over time and grew to support the dual mission: "to home-port and put submarines to sea; and to support the Submarine Center of Excellence that trains sailors to take submarines to sea" visit https://ow.ly/xg6y50TNRfO

  • Barb Staniscia and BPMI executive staff recently had the opportunity to visit the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) in Charleston, SC. NPTU provides training for enlisted Sailors and officers, as well as Naval Nuclear Laboratory civilians, in the operation and maintenance of nuclear power plants of surface ships and submarines in the US Nuclear Navy. The team was also fortunate to speak with Captain Bob Rose, the NPTU-Charleston Commanding Officer. The visit afforded the team with a chance to better understand and appreciate the mission of NPTU and experience firsthand the potential impact that expanding simulation-based training will have on the US Navy.

  • Thanks to the Veterans Breakfast Club and BPMI’s Navy Link Team, our employees were honored with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to listen to Warren Goss, World War II Veteran, whose unit was the first to storm Normandy on D-Day (June 6, 1944). Mr. Goss had us hanging on his every word as he vividly recalled both serious and light-hearted memories from his time in the service. Thank you, Mr. Goss, for your service and your inspiration—this was a talk we will never forget!
