Why is “fake it ‘til you make it” a dangerous trap for entrepreneurs? What’s the elephant in the room that’s frustrated marketers? What aren’t legacy marketing clouds addressing? And how’s Cordial taking a “Robin Hood” approach? I recently had a fun conversation with John Lee Dumas on the “Entrepreneurs on Fire” podcast to talk through all of this. Pssst! Do you know the best-kept secret in martech? Our clients tell us that Cordial is a hidden gem. So, we turned our brand awareness challenge into curiosity-piquing messaging at #ShoptalkFall. The booth itself became a fun and effective conversation starter: 🤔 "So, what's the best-kept secret?" 😁 "It's Cordial, have you ever heard of us?" 🤩 "No, haha! Tell me about Cordial!" More on our booth strategy: • Very tall, very bright, custom booth design for gravitas and visibility. • Premium UNBRANDED swag from retail clients – it flew off the shelves. • Well-designed case study cards to coordinate with the client swag. • Notable absence of "what we do" messaging to spark intrigue and provide contrast to the jargon word salad we tend to see at these things. 😵💫 The highlights and learnings from Shoptalk Fall—a brand-new event: 👍 Kudos to the Shoptalk marketing team for nailing the theme integration. 👍 I met so many inspiring women at the networking event at House of Blues. 👍 Quality over quantity – the connections we did make were highly valuable. 👍 Busta Rhymes was a solid choice. Pinterest's VIP lounge saved the night! 🤷♀️ I didn't get to attend any sessions or 1:1 meetings so can't speak to those. 👎 Mid-October is tough for retailers to attend during the pre-holiday season. 👎 Three full days felt long – by Friday, exhaustion was the universal language. 👎 As an exhibiting sponsor, the vendor-to-brand ratio seemed too high. I met interesting vendors and tech folks, but that's not why we invest in Shoptalk Fall. Thank you to the core onsite crew, Christine McKibban, Elizabeth Gemgnani Valenta, Christy Parrish, Adam Meshot, Jake Golberg, Andrew Bodenheimer for bringing A-game energy to the Cordial booth, dinners, meetings and activations. Thank you to the one-and-only Caroline Overby, as well as Kristina Vanderslice, Monica Cottingham, Susanna Cole for bringing our brand to life through events. We wouldn't be here without your creativity, collaboration, and dedication.
