Recently, we were honored to host a special screening of Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, a documentary that captures the extraordinary life and legacy of Christopher Reeve and his family. The evening was made even more special by the presence of Will Reeve and executive producer Conor Schell, who led an insightful and emotional discussion about Christopher Reeve’s lasting impact. From his rise as an aspiring unknown actor to his definitive portrayal of Superman, Christopher Reeve set the gold standard for superhero films, inspiring millions. After his near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995, Reeve’s courage and dedication to advocacy redefined what true heroism looks like, as he became a leading voice for spinal cord injury research and disability rights. The film and the conversation that followed reminded us all that heroism is not just about capes and powers but about resilience, courage, and the relentless pursuit of hope. Will Reeve, who grew up here in Bedford, returned to the Playhouse he knew so well as a child, surrounded by familiar faces and a community that has always supported his family. The warmth and nostalgia were palpable, especially as Will shared anecdotes about his father, his family's journey, and the ongoing mission of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, dedicated to advancing innovative research and improving the quality of life for those living with paralysis. "Christopher Reeve's story is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit, and presenting this important film is an example of the Playhouse fulfilling its mission to be a place for community and storytelling,” said Marie Scanlan, CEO of Bedford Playhouse. Thank you Will Reeve, Conor Schell, and Warner Brother’s for making this extraordinary evening possible! Now Playing at #BedfordPlayhouse 🎥 📸 Peter T Michaelis

Last night, we were honored to host a powerful screening of Sing Sing in collaboration with Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA). The film tells the true story of Divine G, who finds hope and purpose through a prison theater group. After the screening, we were joined by Clarence Maclin, RTA alumnus and co-star, who shared his incredible journey of personal transformation. RTA, which began locally in Bedford, has since expanded its reach, using the arts to provide incarcerated individuals with the tools and resources for creative expression and personal growth. Through this impactful work, they continue to challenge societal stereotypes and offer a platform for incarcerated people to reclaim their humanity. (L to R): Director of Marketing & Communications of RTA, Brandon Barrow, Actor and RTA alum, Clarence Maclin, Board Director of RTA, Karin Young Shiel, Founder of RTA, Katherine Vockins, and Interim Executive Director of RTA, Leslie Lichter #SingSingFilm #RehabilitationThroughTheArts #BedfordPlayhouse
