New York (Tri-State) Senior Manager for Global Glimpse

This summer, 29 incredible youth from across New York City graduated from Bee University NYC’s Urban Beekeeping Fellowship. Over the course of the program, our Fellows learned the fundamentals of urban beekeeping, explored historical and contemporary environmental justice issues, and participated in hands-on experiences working with honeybees. Our Fellows also participated in a cooking class to learn how urban agriculture and eating locally sourced foods can contribute to positive environmental outcomes. Many similar programs either charge participants thousands of dollars or offer unpaid opportunities, leaving young people—especially those from underrepresented communities—without access to these valuable experiences. We wanted to break that barrier. Our Urban Beekeeping Fellowship is designed to not only introduce youth to beekeeping but also expose them to career paths in the green economy—all while compensating them for their time and effort. Through the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship, we ensure that no one is left out of the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a sustainable future. All of us who have contributed to Bee-U believe in creating opportunities that go beyond learning – they empower and uplift. We founded the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship to give young people the chance to engage in the unique and rewarding activity of beekeeping, while also getting paid for their work. We’ve also developed a Green Jobs Pipeline within our organization to keep our alums engaged and connect them with career opportunities. Bee University NYC is about more than bees; it's about creating pathways for young people to thrive in industries that will shape the world of tomorrow. 🌱 Thank you all for your support THE STATEN ISLAND FOUNDATION, DJ McManus Foundation, Edwin Gould Foundation (Nicole M. Bees are small but mighty! In a single day, a worker bee may visit 10,000 flowers to collect drops of nectar that she uses to produce honey and feed the hive. A single bee will produce less than a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime 🍯 If you support our work here at Bee University NYC, please consider making a donation to sustain our organization https://lnkd.in/eJC7hZNb #nyc #bees #urbanbeekeeping #savethebees #nationalhoneymonth

It's National Honey Month 🍯 and we kicked it off with our Urban Beekeeping Fellowship Graduation for Cohort 2! We are so proud of our fellows for moving out of their comfort zones and getting comfy with the bees. Special thank you to NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams for joining us in our honey harvest and educating us on the role of the public advocate, as well as all of our guests who helped us beat the rain and enjoy a bee-utiful day 🐝 If you enjoy the work we do here at Bee University NYC, support us at https://lnkd.in/eJC7hZNb

🐝 Last week during an optional fellowship session, our Urban Beekeeping Fellows learned about the American Foulbrood with Nick. They even conducted full AFB inspection on one of our hives by removing some pupae to check development under the capped cells. Thank you Nick for using resources from the New York Bee Club to ensure our fellows could learn more about the different inspections done as a beekeeper! He has had surgery on his spine and his motor skills are currently limited and faces a long road to recovery. Please consider supporting Tavion in this time of difficulty. Your donation will help support him financially as he is unable to work and earn an income while doing rehab to regain his strength. gofund.me/f1d9fe0f
