Love seeing these kinds of #blockchain use cases taking hold to improve #government! Guess what else we can put on chain for faster verification and #reciprocity in #education? Yup. Educator licenses. It's a part of our platform BenchK12 and our ethos. If you earned the license you should be able to hold a verified version in your digital wallet. And if you move districts or even States, it should be instantly verifiable and valid. https://lnkd.in/gRMeQT27

Love reading about the acknowledgement that educators go through phases in their career! If you are or know an educator, you know this all too well. But what is missing from this article? The phases of *becoming* an educator. Pre-service, educator pathways, and licensure are all massive hurdles and we lose so many potentially great educators before they even get to the classroom. BenchK12 is committed to supporting educators at *every* phase of their career (and supporting those who support educators!). We're launching a new tool soon and updating our website so you can learn more about the entire ecosystem we're building for educators and all of the partners who support them. https://lnkd.in/gCiWZ5uJ

In tonight's #SOTU you will likely hear that #apprenticeships are a domestic policy focus from The White House. (More details including all things interagency #collaboration, #data, and #funding below.) BenchK12 has been honored to co-chair a working group on #educator apprenticeship data #infrastructure with The Pathways Alliance and the Ed-Fi Alliance (S/O Erin Mote and Lindsey Judd) that is making recommendations to the U.S. Department of Labor given their historic investment. (We're also cooking up some new technology in response to some needs we've heard over the past few weeks, so follow here or our company page for updates!) As you'll read in the executive order I've linked to here, none of this work can be realized without *tons* of *strategic* collaboration. Our working group will need the informed input and knowledge from a lot of folks in the coming months, so if you want to *meaningfully* contribute, let me know! Important note: As a for-profit company, it is not often that folks trust those with our designation into these spaces as a true collaborator. I believe that needs to change (multi-sector collabs #ftw!), but it is incumbent upon for-profit companies to be good actors in these spaces in order to earn our place. (Full transparency: This working group is unpaid work.) BenchK12 will always work to be that kind of company while I lead it. https://lnkd.in/gMyBZrrA

We are so grateful for investors like Megan McNally who invested early in us and believe that we can solve the global educator shortage by making it frictionless to get licensed and then get tons of support once you're in the classroom. Let's give the press something else to write about.
Substitute teachers are a critical part of a healthy public education system. The problem isn't just one of shortage - it's one of friction. From credentialing to placement, we've made it incredibly hard for every party in the marketplace. As a result, potential subs drop from the pipeline, teachers shoulder the burden, and students suffer. To solve the shortage we've got to fix the friction. And it is indeed solvable. My money is on BenchK12. Literally. If this is a challenge you care about, too, keep an eye on Brooke Barrett and her team.
Teachers Are Missing More School, and There Are Too Few Substitutes

We are super close to raising $100k in our community round for BenchK12 on Wefunder! Only today and tomorrow left to go. We'd love for you to consider investing in our team and product that will help solve the global educator shortage. Our smallest check size is $100 and the largest was $30k (beyond a $45k angel investment from FBA Capital outside of the platform). Not only is this an investment you can feel good about, but did you know that just solving the substitute teacher shortage is a market larger than #Lyft, #Uber, and #taxis combined? 😳 Join us: www.wefunder.com/benchk12

We are a multicultural and international team at BenchK12, but we are U.S.-based, and (for now) our work is national in scope. As most folks will acknowledge, the U.S. Thanksgiving is a complicated holiday. For many, it represents a traumatic genocide while for others, it represents gathering loved ones together for a meal. As a company, we are taking this week off and, I hope, that as we grow and mature as a company this week will always be one that will be a break for our team that allows us to express our gratitude for their efforts to serve those who we exist for and will always be grateful towards--our educators. None of us would be who we are today without the educators in our lives and every person who believed in us, nurtured us, and contributed to our success in ways big and small. So wherever this post finds you, I hope you'll join us in expressing your gratitude, meaningfully, this week and throughout the rest of the year. Everyone can use some extra love and appreciation over the holidays and we're sending some of ours to you.
