🚨 Exciting News: $4.2 million for Community Safety & Wildfire Prevention! 🚨 We are proud to announce that the East Bay Regional Park District has secured $4.2 million in funding for urgent fuel reduction work in Claremont Canyon and Tilden Regional Parks, benefiting the communities of Oakland and Berkeley. This vital funding enhances our ability to protect public safety and safeguard our natural landscapes as we address the wildfire risks we consider an emergency. This accomplishment is a testament to our entire District team's dedication and hard work—from planning and permitting to the detailed grant application process and implementation. Their efforts have been instrumental in securing funding to make our communities safer and our land more resilient. 🔍 Breakdown of 2025 Grant Awards: State Coastal Conservancy – $2,075,000 (Berkeley, Castro Valley) FEMA HMGP – $4.2 million (Oakland, Berkeley) FEMA PDM – $1.8 million (Oakland) FEMA PDM – $2 million (Oakland) Grant Total: $10,075,000 in funding for fuel mitigation across Oakland, Berkeley, and Castro Valley! These resources allow us to expand crucial fuel reduction work, such as clearing excess vegetation, thinning forests, and improving forest health. By taking these measures, we are directly addressing wildfire hazards to protect lives, homes, and natural resources.

To support local fire departments and their communities in this charge, the U.S. Fire Administration recently launched two new WUI fire awareness tools: The WUI Fire Property Awareness Explorer. This application allows users to search addresses or communities to gain a contextual understanding of their area relative to the WUI and vegetative fuels. https://lnkd.in/eDp7f-kH The WUI Fire Community Awareness Explorer. This dashboard provides a quick snapshot of counties or places in the U.S. and potential exposure to wildfire hazards for structures in the WUI.
