Greg Gianforte and members of the Great Falls Development Alliance for the groundbreaking ceremony. “Thanks to our pro-business, pro-jobs policies, Montana’s economy is on the move,” said Gov. Greg Gianforte. “I’d like to thank BHE Montana for its continued investment in our communities, and for its commitment to improving grid reliability in our region.” “This investment launches a new era for electricity in Montana, opening the door for significant new opportunities for energy production, transmission and use across Montana,” said Brett Doney, president and CEO, Great Falls Development Alliance. “We applaud BHE Montana’s continued investment in renewable 24/7 energy and look forward to partnering with them to create greater economic opportunity in the Great Falls Montana Region.” BHE Montana’s Glacier Battery System is a stand-alone facility that will be used to support real-time scheduling of intermittent, renewable generation from BHE Montana’s wind and solar generation assets, adding an additional layer of resiliency to Montana’s energy grid. The Glacier Battery System will be interconnected to the Montana-Alberta Tie Line and is expected to be in operation by the end of 2025. BHE Montana operates the 189-megawatt Rim Rock windfarm near Kevin, Montana, as well as the 105-megawatt Glacier I and 103.5-megawatt Glacier II windfarms that span southeast Glacier County and southwest Toole County in northern Montana. In June 2024, BHE Montana also announced plans to develop Glacier Solar Park, a new 100-megawatt solar generation project. # # #

Upon joining the regional markets, BHE Montana will add 397.5 megawatts of clean energy generation from three windfarms and 75 megawatts of a battery energy storage system. In June 2024, BHE Montana also announced plans to develop Glacier Solar Park, a new 100-megawatt solar generation project. “We are excited to announce our plans to integrate more renewable energy into the CAISO’s Extended Day-Ahead Market, enabling us to fully optimize our generation portfolio and enhance reliability and clean energy availability in the West,” said Nancy Murray, president, BHE Montana. “We look forward to continuing to create a unified energy footprint in the region.” The EDAM, a voluntary day-ahead electricity market, is designed to deliver significant reliability, economic, and environmental benefits to balancing areas and utilities throughout the West. The company will also establish a new office and control room in Great Falls, Montana. “We are incredibly excited to build upon the significant investments we’ve already made to further develop energy resources in Montana,” said Nancy Murray, president, BHE Montana. “These new projects reflect our commitment to grow our business in Montana and support the growth of businesses and communities that rely on a clean and resilient energy grid.” “Montana continues to be on the cutting edge of innovation, including in our energy sector,” Montana Governor Greg Gianforte said. “We will continue to embrace our all-of-the-above policy to address energy affordability and grid reliability and gladly welcome this investment from BHE Montana.” BHE Montana’s Glacier Battery System will be located near Ethridge, Montana. The battery is a stand-alone facility that will be used to support real-time scheduling of intermittent, renewable generation from BHE Montana’s wind and solar generation assets, adding an additional layer of resiliency to Montana’s energy grid. Glacier Battery System is expected to be in operation by the end of 2025. BHE Montana’s Glacier Solar Park will be built on 1,000 acres of land in north central Montana. The installation of 200,000 solar panels will add 100 megawatts of clean, renewable energy to Montana’s electricity system and is expected to be in operation by the end of 2026. Both projects will be interconnected to the Montana-Alberta Tie Line. BHE Montana also will be opening a new office in Great Falls, Montana, which will support 15 local employees, and include a 24/7/365 control room from which BHE Montana’s balancing authorities will support the operation of BHE Montana’s generation assets and provide scheduling and balancing services to other energy generators and transmission providers. BHE Montana is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy. The Associate System Operator is responsible for managing Balancing Authority (BA), Generator Owner (GO), and Generator Operator (GOP) operations, forecasting, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting real-time functions from BHE Montana’s Network Operations Center (NOC). These functions are associated with the real-time operation of the Company’s balancing authorities, generation projects, and scheduling of third-party energy resources, while ensuring grid reliability and continuous compliance with all NERC, AESO and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) BA, GO, and GOP reliability standard requirements.
