#MinamataConvention COP-5 acknowledged mercury pollution as a direct driver of global #biodiversity loss and recognized the opportunities for the implementation of both the Minamata Convention and the Global Biodiversity Framework #GBF in a mutually supportive way. Executive Secretary Monika Stankiewicz emphasized that COP-5 decision to align the Minamata Convention with other chemical conventions and the #GBF marks a significant step towards addressing pollution and biodiversity together to protect people and the planet. 🔜 At #COP16Colombia, the Secretariat will participate in the high-level segment, further aligning the Minamata Convention with the GBF to #MakeMercuryHistory and make #PeaceWithNature. BRI’s Center for Conservation and Climate Change works around the world to conduct studies that improve #biodiversity through ecosystem management and restoration. BRI works with Mafisia in Zambia, as well as other partners, including CarbonSolve on #soilcarbon projects. 🌍 Soil carbon plays a crucial role in mitigating #climatechange by drawing down excess carbon from the atmosphere into the ground, where the #carbon rebuilds the soil to feed healthy plants and balance the climate. As part of a 1.26-million-hectare soil carbon project, we are working to implement fire management and grazing techniques to monitor changes in soil carbon storage and biodiversity. 🌱 Check out our website to learn more about the project : https://lnkd.in/ey3uhVNw
