In our California Black Educator Survey, Black educators made it clear - school conditions still carry the same residue of anti-black practices and policies that were responsible for the decline of Black educators post Brown v. Board of education. We collaborated with Black educators, school and district leaders and school psychologist to co create the Liberatory Black Educator Retention Framework. As we dream to increase the number of Black educators in schools, we must take intentional steps in restoring dignity. Join us on April 11th at 5:30p at ORA in Leimert Park as we launch the solution for systems to truly retain Black educators. RSVP here : https://lnkd.in/eH8Tp-z2

Our founder, Jalisa Evans, wrote an article for Greater Good Magazine describing the 5 ways schools can retain more Black educators. "A culturally affirming school leader would recognize how racism and anti-Blackness can exist in their school for both students and staff. These leaders may dig into their student outcomes data and provide intentional support to a particular group based on their academic needs, or take steps to ensure staff are being managed fairly and not differently by race or gender" Read more below https://lnkd.in/epHYuJ2H

CA Black Educators have spoken. In Fall of 2023 our team of advocates decided to survey Black educators across the state. The findings revealed Black educators experience navigating their school and work culture. Including 68% reporting their school did not provide specific groups, spaces, or resources for Black educators to feel heard and seen. We decided to publish the findings in a report called "What Schools Must do to Retain Black Educators." Today we honor Dr.King and his commitment to justice. As our country recognizes this day as a federal holiday we charge everyone to also recognize the existence of injustice and inequity around us today. Let's not dilute Dr. King's legacy with just a day of "service" but instead of a daily commitment to pushing back against what isn't right. As an action network we carry with us the spirit of Dr.King on our journey to freedom for Black educators and students in our schools across the country in hopes that it unites us all.
