  • When asked for career advice, our CEO Elisa Villanueva Beard pulled from her 27-year journey with Teach For America. Here’s her advice in a nutshell: ❇️ Say yes to the opportunities you don’t think you’re ready for. ❇️ Cut through the noise to build trust with yourself. ❇️ Find your people—the ones who believe in you and invest in your growth. ❇️ Excel at what you're doing now and people will recognize it. “I rose to the occasion every single time. I don’t pretend to know what I don’t know. I trust myself. I’ve learned how to cut through the noise … to bring my full self to the table.” #CareerAdvice #SXSWEDU #WomensHistoryMonth

“I’m convinced that I would not have been the 2019 DC Teacher of the Year without [the guidance and leadership of my TFA placement school principal, Dr. Kristy Love.” Kelly Harper Lee (Houston ’12) journey began with late nights practicing lessons, the unwavering support of mentors, and a deep commitment to her students. • “We talk a lot about the despair and crisis, and not enough about the hope and what to do next.” 🌟 In her SXSW EDU session, Looking Back, Moving Forward: A Conversation on Leadership, our CEO Elisa Villanueva Beard shared her vision for the future of education — a future in which every child has the education they want and deserve because adults prioritize evidence-based solutions, make room for innovation, and hold fast to an unyielding belief in what’s possible for kids. That very innovation and belief were front and center at this year’s #SXSWEDU conference. From our staff-led sessions to the community created with other educators in attendance, #SXSWEDU underscored our commitment to building a brighter future for every child. Thank you to all our staff members and Teach For America Austin for helping us create space for learning, growth, and community. #TFAatSXSWEDU #EducationMatters Candelario Cervantez Samantha Asante, Ed.M.
