As we enter Q3, I want to do a mid-program check in to celebrate our exceptional 2024 summer intern team here at Black Mountain Investment Group. At Black Mountain, we believe in nurturing the next generation of leaders in finance and technology through a two-part internship program comprised of training followed by working live deals. After spending their last 4 weeks training, today I’m excited to showcase some achievements of our talented interns who are already making waves in their respective fields. Edward Sun just attended San Francisco Deep Tech Week, where he immersed himself in cutting-edge innovations reshaping our industry. His participation at events like the Brain-Computer Interface Conference highlight his commitment to exploring groundbreaking technologies that will drive the future. Ben Saxon was at the 2024 North American Tunneling conference in Nashville last week. Ben’s University of Pennsylvania-based team recently clinched victory in this year’s “Not-a-Boring-Competition” mini event hosted by Elon Musk, where they built a half-meter diameter tunnel boring machine. Jazz Ch'ng authored a thought-provoking article on the rapidly evolving landscape of unrealized losses in regional banking and commercial real estate, shedding light on critical industry datapoints that are not getting as much publicity as they should. Viren Mehta has been building a proprietary political forecasting model based on over 40 years of historical data. This model is giving us the ability to understand the complicated, difficult, and emotionally-charged political landscape of today in a quantitative, sensical, data-driven manner. Maxwell Love has been conducting thorough analyses on various companies in the BioTech space alongside Kyle Niedzwiecki, CIO of The Jupiter Fund. Maxwell and Edward were also both recently accepted to a very prestigious BioTech fellowship called No Patient Left Behind. Zachary No has gone above and beyond with detailed reporting on SaaS businesses and up-and-coming energy assets, all while underwriting dozens of public market and private equity deals and sharing new models and reports with leadership on a weekly basis. José Miguel Álvarez Stefanoni has been conducting critical research across various technology and natural resource industries in order to help us shape our 2025 investment thesis. Kush Anandpara has been diving deep into energy assets, specifically hydropower in Sub-Saharan Africa, which he discovered is responsible for nearly 40% of that region’s power. He has also been gathering safety, feasibility, and scalability insights on different batteries such as lithium-ion, flow, and solid-state batteries. I am privileged to have this opportunity to support and learn from such exceptional talents.
