    When I met Flava Flav not long after leaving Big Law, the first dot-com bubble was booming. It was the late 90s, and I had left a big firm to build a music startup called EZCD.com. Our idea was to let people make their own compilation CDs. I was at a trade show hawking our wares when Public Enemy's hype man came walking through the hall with his entourage. By then, I had already met with Chuck D about licensing their music. So I introduced myself and told Flava Flay a little bit about what we were doing. He didn’t seem to care about CDs or licensing, so I showed him a new way to search for anything online in seconds. It was called Google. So with a Big Mac in one hand, Flava Flav ran his first Google search on my computer. I still like to believe that I helped Flava Flav make his first Google search. Back then, lawyers wouldn’t touch the internet with a ten-foot pole. When I started in legal marketing, we had to beg lawyers to see the value in being online. Fast forward 25+ years, and the tech and marketing world have come a long way in legal. I've seen it firsthand both at Price Benowitz LLP and BluShark Digital. Today, firms see the need for online visibility as a given. Everyone—from solos to the biggest law firms—is focused on SEO, PPC, and leveraging digital channels to build credibility and generate cases. What hasn’t changed is the importance of curiosity and staying ahead of the trends. We need to keep looking for where the puck is going.
