The Oslo team at Bluware spent a recent afternoon hiking up Kolsås hill, to learn about the geology of Oslo, Norway viewing rock types up close and personal, and taking in the vast view of the region. Kolsås is a part of a nearly horizontal plateau of Permian lavas resistant to erosion that form vertical cliffs. The underlying sediments are weaker and form the slopes and the surrounding lower ground. The hike took the crew from the limestones and shales from Cambrian to Silurian that were folded and faulted when the Caledonian mountain chain formed in western Norway. Flat lying sediments can be seen at the base of the cliff from Carboniferous deposited on the eroded surface. As the team climbed steeper, the lava flows from a huge volcanic episode in Permian came into view. This excursion was a great opportunity to learn about the geological features of our beautiful surroundings, all while enjoying some fresh air and great company! #Bluwarians #Kolsås #geology #Norway
